The Spring Festival, falsely called "Chinese New Year", is not my cup of tea either.

Since ancient times the actual birth date of the Chinese population had no real meaning and thus was seldom or not recorded for a long time. Instead every Chinese got one year older on that day what you call The Spring Festival,- I would say it is traditionally very correct to refer to it as "a Chinese new year"!
