of all the Chinese in queue only 15-20 % are genuine buyer rest all wants to buy as many iPhone and sell them at premium in mainland.
Now coming to mainland , why people are crazy ? It is because they want to flash it and satisfy there ego. In china success is measured only and only in terms of money and luxury

None of the above. And you don't have to be to know. I get your point about ZTE and Huawei but they are not pioneers of the business. Huawei is successful and innovative in network business not in handsets. All core patents in handset business are owned by Nokia, Google (Moto) , Samsung and Qualcomm. Other companies pay them or gross license their technology

Same with Apple and Samsung and Google as the smartphone patents are held by Microsoft, Motorola and Nokia. But look where they are right now in the smartphone industry: both Nokia (bought by Microsoft) and Motorola (bought by Lenovo) hardly exists while Microsoft struggles with Windows Mobile OS against iOS and Android.

Samsung, the world's top smartphone vendor, hardly innovates but instead slavishly copies Apple's designs, uses Qualcomm's chipsets in contrast with Huawei which has come out with its own chipset, designs, software, etc.

Apple's popularity has nothing to do with its technology but everything to do with its brand. Despite the hype about iPhone 6 or 6+, bigger phones, larger screens , NFC-based mobile payment, etc. are old news in the smartphone industry. Quite the contrary, Apple is a follower not the leader in these technologies which has been around for years. Chinese consumers are buying Apple for its brand which denotes "status" not its technology which is lagging behind its rivals.

Nokia didn't sell its patents to Microsoft, neither did Google (Motorola) to Lenovo. Name me three major Chinese handset innovation

Most of the software patents in mobile OS are held by Microsoft with the hardware patents in mobile phones held by Motorola and Nokia. Qualcomm invented CDMA which is the core technology for 3G but not 4G. ZTE, Datang, HK ASTRI and Huawei owns most of the essential patents to China's own homegrown 4G technology called TD-LTE in both the network and terminal equipment. Huawei's HiSilicon designs SoCs for use in smartphones as well as routers while HK ASTRI has licensed its TD-TLEbaseband designs to Chinese SoC houses. Datang single-handedly created China's 3G standard called TD-SCDMA.


Apple has virtually zero patents in the hardware/software fields of mobile phones or wireless communications because Apple WAS a PC company. What Apple did was to reinvent the industry by creating an ecosystem around apps installed on its iOS mobile OS and then aggressively marketing its brand through Apple Stores. Before the iPhone, consumers would buy mobile phones as part of a subscription plan from their carriers. Apple turned mobile phones into fashion accessories. And that's what Chinese consumers obssessed with status are buying -- Apple's brand not its technology.
