Sales often fluctuate on things as simple as people are waiting because of rumours that prices will fall, it does not mean price reductions.

Sure thing. But prices normally follow the sales drops. In July only two of 70 biggest Chinese cities could boast the housing prices rise. All the others witnessed the drop.

Well, this "blip" started last November and is persisting. This May 35 of 70 biggest municipalities witnessed the housing price drop, June - 55, July - 68...

so your comment that it would start on national day is wrong, now you claim it has already started.

No real drop can be considered until it is at least a 12 month figure to cancel out anomilies and the drops need to be huge to allow the normal people to afford a place

What I told previously was that THEY SAY it would start stabilizing after the holidays. Maybe not, but right now most of the cities are lifting restrictions on house purchases. Maybe that will work. As for the people, the ones who suffered the most from the current situation are those, who signed the contract for purchasing the new apartment planning to pay for that with the money from selling their current property. In the middle of price drops they are loosing hundreds of thousands, unable to sell their current apartment for the feasible price. I know a woman in Bj who already lost more than a million RMB, trapped in this situation.
