Richard Nixon officially proclaimed " war on cancer" in 1971 through the signing of the National Cancer Act. Since then more than a hundred billion American tax payer dollars has been spent on this war, predominately on research and drug development to find a cure; add to this the billions more spent by cancer patients and other countries doing similar research it's not hard to become cynical with the large pharmaceutical companies that dominate the cancer industry. After more than forty years of war we don't seem to have made much progress. It has been estimated that more than one in every four Americans will be diagnosed with cancer within their lifetimes – and this number is projected to grow.

If you had a business selling something that made you well over a hundred billion dollars per year, would you take steps to put yourself out of business by introducing a cancer curing drug? Or would you make every effort for that money continue rolling in? Is there really any incentive for this disease to be beaten?

Nearly half of all Americans will develop cancer in their lifetime. Quick maths tells us that is an astonishing 158 million victims. Over half a million people in America died of cancer in 2012. In 2011, cancer was the #1 cause of death in the Western world, and #2 in developing countries. You can do your own research one the Internet and get statistics that will amaze you.

Is there a case for more use of alternative medicines and more research into the effectiveness of alternative medicine like TCM? Of course there is but the large pharmaceutical companies won't do it because they can't Patent the herbs used in TCM and they cite the enormous cost of testing drugs as the reason for requiring an exclusive Patent for years so they can recoup their investment. But where do the billions of dollars that are raised by cancer charities each year go? most of it goes to the pharmaceutical companies and the rest on the charities themselves, some of them are very rich organisations indeed and some exist purely for themselves. It's high time for a review of Nixons war on cancer methinks.

Money Spent on Fraudulent Research?

A large portion of money donated to cancer research by the public is spent on animal research which has, since its inception, been widely condemned as a waste of time and resources. For instance, consider the 1981 Congressional Testimony by Dr. Irwin Bross, former director of the Sloan-Kettering, the largest cancer research institute in the world, and then Director of Biostatistics at Roswell Park Memorial Institute for Cancer Research, Bufallo, NY: "The uselessness of most of the animal model studies is less well known. For example, the discovery of chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of human cancer is widely-heralded as a triumph due to use of animal model systems. However, here again, these exaggerated claims are coming from or are endorsed by the same people who get the federal dollars for animal research. There is little, if any, factual evidence that would support these claims. Indeed, while conflicting animal results have often delayed and hampered advances in the war on cancer, they have never produced a single substantial advance either in the prevention or treatment of human cancer. For instance, practically all of the chemotherapeutic agents which are of value in the treatment of human cancer were found in a clinical context rather than in animal studies."

Good post. Makes you think, why after such astronomical sums being spent and still sought after every year, even pocket change from kids... to fight one or another type of cancer, all that gets stronger is an industry based on it and the statistics of incidence. There must be somethings in the modern way of life that is causing this and apparently all the attention is focussed away from it.

The cynic would say there is big money being made by the largest companies in the world out of this, big pharma, the agricultural industry and the food industry and of course our governments support them and even subsidise them to our disadvantage.

Could this be the reason?
1935: Only one case of cancer had been reported in the last 50 years by the Inuit (Eskimo) people of Alaska and Canada. After they began eating processed foods, their cancer rate exploded until it equalled that of the US by the 1970's.

Nixon, a crook, and his war on cancer was only meant to serve the lucrative cancer cartel. This is evident in the US government's long history of dismissing and suppressing useful alternative cancer therapies.

The tricks of the cancer industry to deceive the public are intricate and numerous. One effective tactic is the use of cancer survival statistics which are profoundly biased and scientifically unreliable but the profiteers of the cancer business use it because these figures tend to show an exaggerated overblown effect so the cancer cartel can "educate" (=deceive) the public with it by showing just how effective their treatments are (see the epilogue in this article: http://www.supplements-and-health.com/mammogram.html ).

As long as money interests dominate medical science the public loses.
