Chicago weekend shootings kill four including 11-year-old girl

Sun Jul 20, 2014

There seems to be no end for violent and bloody weekends in the US city of Chicago where at least forty people are shot between 6 p.m. Friday and 12 a.m. Monday.

Chicago police say four people including a four-year-old girl have lost their lives in the shootings.

Police said Shamiya Adams was shot in the head on Friday night inside her friend’s house when someone fired from outside. She died a day later after the incident.

On Saturday night, a drive-by shooting injured four people and killed another near a block party in the 900 block of North Mayfield Avenue.

One man was killed and another injured in the first fatal shooting on Sunday. The incident took place in a bar in city’s Brighton Park neighborhood.

Chicago, described as the most dangerous city in the United States, has been dealing with a wave of deadly shootings in recent weeks.

More than 50 people were shot with at least 17 of them fatally in the city during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

An FBI crime statistics, released in late 2013, said the city registered more homicides in 2012 than New York City.

The United States has more guns and more gun related deaths than any other developed country in the world, according to a new study by US doctors.

Anti-gun campaigners maintain more than thirty Americans shot dead, and scores more treated for gun-related injuries in hospitals every day.

Critics blame the notoriously liberal gun control laws in the United States for the high rate of gun violence in the country.

More than 50 people were shot with at least 17 of them fatally in the city during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. That's not even a 50 % kill rate. Adam Lanza managed 95 % at Sandy Hook. Not bad for an autistic kid.

what was happened in Chicago, that is the sign of moral decay in the US

All to do with homelessness, unemployment, poverty, discrimination and theft of working class's wealth by the big banks.

US saw 110 mass shootings in 5 years

Jul 22, 2014

American people have witnessed at least 110 mass shootings since January 2009 – almost one to two shootings each month, a new report shows.

The report released by Everytown for Gun Safety found that women comprised 14 percent of total gun homicide victims and 51 percent of mass shooting casualties.

Previous research published by the group, supported by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, showed that American women were 11 times more likely to be murdered with a gun than women in any other developed country, MSNBC reported Monday.

Everytown used FBI and media reports to do the new study. According to MSNBC, the group adopted the FBI’s definition of “mass shooting,” which categorizes each event as “a number of murders (four or more) occurring during the same incident.”

According to the study, domestic violence influenced 57 percent of the incidents, when the shooter killed a current or former family member or partner.

At least 42 percent of the mass shooters possessed their guns illegally, the analysis said.

The study also found that only 11 percent of perpetrators demonstrated signs of illness before the tragedy. The mass shooter’s age, on average, was 34.

Culprits who used high-capacity magazines, or assault weapons likely equipped with the ammunition, shot 156 percent more people, resulting in 63 percent more deaths, than in events without the involvement of such weapons, the study said.

Magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition are generally considered “large capacity.” High-capacity magazines are banned in just eight states and the District of Columbia.

Researchers said 14 percent of the mass shooting took place in public spaces, where firearms were not permitted, a figure that opposes the gun lobby’s claim that “gun-free zones” enable mass violence.

A September study found that the US has more guns and gun deaths than any other developed country in the world. The country has 89 guns per 100 people and 10 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people.
