  • Can you think of a reason for not worrying on how the US government business? 2013-8-22 22:26

Due to stagnation of US wages there are many whose income is low. Apart from the morality of assisting those (including children) there is a very practical and self-centered reason for relatively-wealthy people like me to support generous welfare (and the higher taxes that fund it). The higher the wealth the lower the likelihood of the person to spend each dollar received. (Marginal Propensity to Consume or MPC). The poor, however NEED to spend each dollar. So, in a recession (like now) taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor INCREASES purchases. The result is that a rich person like myself who is invested in corporations receives a higher profit. I am puzzled why more rich people don't understand this.

A majority Americans are unhappy with the welfare system, claiming that individuals were abusing the welfare program by not applying for jobs, having more children just to get more aid, and staying unmarried so as to qualify for greater benefits. Welfare system reform became a hot topic in the1990's. and still nothing is solved today. There are over 100 million US residents on welfare. the welfare system is for the needed one's, not for 30% of the population. Is it America in that bad shape to have over 100 million people on the welfare or is is the Welfare system is failing?
