Anyone who has enjoyed the programs in the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Paralympics will never forget the song “Paradise” presented by Yang Haitao, a young blind singer. “…With my song I see white clouds and blue sky. With my song I see flowers in the fields. With my song I see a beautiful girl. With my song I always sing of my paradise. With the song reechoing around all over the world, he becomes well-known.

Yang was born blind in a poor family in 1982. He began to feel interested in music at the age of five. He started to learn singing since 9 in a Blind School in Yinchuan city. His talent in singing was shown since 1993. Representing Ning Xia, he took part in the 3rd Handicapped Singing Competition organized by the National Handicapped Association and won the third place. In 2001 he sang the song <Paradise> created by Teng Geer and won the first prize in the Fifth Handicapped Singing Competition. Winning lots of honor, Yang becomes more self-confident in his singing. From then on, he decided to plan his singing career and tried his best to be independent through singing.

Now he is one of the members of China Disabled Art Troupe. To many people’s surprise, he can sing many beautiful songs from different countries such as <My dream> in English, <Friend> in Korean, <Roses on Alps> in Swedish language, the songs in German and in Spanish and so on. He had already visited more than 30 countries and districts in the world till 2008 like an angel passing happiness and kindness to the people there and passing his optimistic attitude to face tough life to others. It is very clear that the achievement he’s realized is based on many teachers’ help and support. He is going to use his songs to thank those who have helped him in his life. He is going to sing for the handicapped, encouraging them to be stronger to face their tough life. He also wants to use his songs to bring happiness to people all over the world.

  • Will dropping of population restrict China’s development? 2018-12-20 04:52

The environment does matter, but I doubt the population of over 1 billion would drop to 0.1 billion so quickly. I habitually invite students to see these issues globally, and that way to habitually put comments about China's policies into a globally influential context, as is appropriate for a people who sit in the UN Security Council and who have significant gold reserves. A small % of people are concerned for the world facing water shortages. The global population has been doubling in half the time since the 1700s without any wars making a dent in the population explosion, and that is obviously the direct result of mismanaged banks making huge quantities of money freely available so people too easily live indoors and raise so many children. During the past few centuries, national policies were to increase populations because of fear of war with a neighbouring country. But in the past decade, we hear of military leaders in some countries starting to openly wish, online, that they could address threats to the environment as national threats to safety. However, my friends in philosophy point out that the evidence of natural disasters has not convinced some policy makers around the world. Of course, China is known for making green cities: a step toward sustainable urban development. Imagine a few countries in the world able to re-regulate banks and manage the economy to reduce the population explosion, manage international relations to live without fear of war, and so manage to lead international care for sustaining our environment. Walter Rothschild wrote a book listing extinct species of birds, so that our population explosion crowds many species out of life is known to bankers. I hope survival issues matter to policy makers in any country.
