New Life in Shisu

ShiSU is short for Shanghai International Studies University, which is a pretty beautiful campus located in Shanghai.

One week ago, I came from Chengdu to Shisu to further my study in English. The 27-hour-journey on the train is tiring and dull and I couldn’t stop missing my old friends, which constantly made me think that my choice of leaving Chengdu, a familiar city, is totally wrong.

However, when I set foot on the land of Shanghai, a busy and lively city, I felt refreshed again. The vision of future life dispelled the gloom of worrying about unpredictable fear. Although I have spent four years in university, it is still exciting for me to start a new life in a new campus.

It is a cloudy and pleasant day when I walked along the avenue to dormitory pulling my heavy luggage. The whole campus was quiet with plenty of tall Chinese parasol trees, luxuriantly green, standing on the both sides. I felt like I was just like young soldier marching to battlefield but the difference is that my destination is a more wonderful place.

Now, after the opening ceremony and other trivial procedures, I have the leisure sitting to share my feelings and plan for following study. Except for decent environment, the two roommates are also nice. We did a lot of shopping together. Perhaps, it will not be so difficult for three twenty-two-year-old girls to accommodate themselves to different circumstances or maybe we are just too old to act immaturely to find fault with each other. And another bonus is that living in ShiSU means that you are living in a sea of handsome men, Asian, European or American, though the number is so small, which is still such a visual feast.

Of course, there are also some aspects I don’t get used to such as the local food. Compared with Sichuan food which is hot and spicy, Shanghai food is lite and sweet. After four days of eating in dining room without seeing any pepper, ginger, garlic, my stomach complained. Hometown is hard to leave, especially the food. The solution is to order take-out food or eat in Sichuan restaurant, which somehow console the heart sick for spicy food.
Sometimes, uncertainty causes fear but sometimes motivation. I wish the new life in Shisu will give me more time to make sure what kind of person I want to become.

 BTW, Happy Mid-autumn Festival!
