Today is sunny and I can see sunshine through my window. At this moment, I feel tranquil. However, it is very difficult for me to step into this tranquility. I call it transition period. I am going to simply tell you some of my experience and feelings. If you are facing the graduation or you have already graduated from college but still feel confused, then, I hope this blog can help you.

I graduated in June, 2013. My college requested us to sign employment agreement before our graduation. (I believe every undergraduate have suffered it.) So I found a job in an educational institution at first as a teacher. Why did I choose this job? I wanted to take Graduate Entrance Exam in the next year. So I think the atmosphere of this job may be the best for it. I started to work in April, but  quitted it in October. During this time, many things happened. I will omit them here. I am glad to share with you in my later blog.

After my quit, my blanking period came. Most elder people persuade me to find a job before the resignation. But at that time, I just wanted to escape from that working area. I wanted to have a time for myself to take a deep breath. After I had a rest for one week, I began to think what my next direction is. It is really ridiculous that I do think of this in my 23. I asked myself what I am doing in the past 23 years. The funnier thing is that I seemed like have lost the ability of reminiscence. I tried to find out why it happened.

I realized that in the past 23 years, we are walking on a traditional road. I believe Chinese students are smart and hard-working. We spent much time in classroom, textbook. However, there are drawbacks. For instance, the majority of Chinese students always do what teachers told them. Before we go to the university, we have two important exams to attend, that is the high school entrance exam and the college entrance exam. Apart from primary school time, it seems that we spend 6 years for two exams. We have no time to do some thinking, think about the life we really want or think about what my value is and what the person I want to be. Most of us give up our hobbies, because in Chinese parent's eye, they are useless. So there is a tendency that young people always do what others told them to do but have no ideas created by themselves.

However, it will never be late for you to think about it. I really appreciate for my blanking period. During this period, I have tried many things. I began to do what my father wanted me to do, take part in civil servant exam. I even finished the online application, but I didn’t go to the Situ Verification. I know that’s not what I want in my 20s. So I gave up at last. Perhaps you may ask why you didn’t take the PG exam again. To be honest, I really start to read the relevant books again. I kept all the books in a box and didn’t throw it after my graduation. But there was a interlude. PG exam was my prime plan, but I gave up after I worked for 3 months. I must acknowledge that society is really attractive and it is really difficult for you to do some reading again after you step into the society unless you have a strong mind and good habit. Back to PG exam, I restarted it in November. However, due to several reasons, for instance, the lack of time, my impetuous mentality, the lack of courage, my sense of loneliness, I gave up it again.

By reading here, what is your feeling? I describe my blanking period as the darkness of the dawn. Don’t worry about me. I have found my direction. I have known what I want to do and I do know what the person I want to be. And I am trying to do it, I don’t want to say it but I will insist on it. I am sincerely very grateful to my past blanking period. If I didn’t experience it, maybe I am still a girl who doesn’t know my direction, doesn’t know what to do.

Here, I want to share with you some things I deeply understand during my blanking period. Many you’ve known some of them, but it is difficult when you face it and do it by yourself.

Don’t far away from your original plan unless you have a high degree of certainty and make sure you will never give up your second choice. I reckon that people usually familiar with the original plan and sometimes the second choice can be the result produced by the temptation of society. And sometimes you are not able to walk back after you make the decision.

In your 20s, if you think you are walking easy, then maybe you are on a downhill path.

Don’t be impetuous and impatient of your new thoughts, it means your do some thinking. No matter it is good or bad, remember that’s all your own.

If you don’t know what to do and always feel confused, just stop. It doesn’t matter because sometimes direction is more important than effort.

The majority of people usually feel lonely when they graduated. I suggest you to communicate with others in the way you like. Take myself as an example, I never write any blog before. But now, I am writing blog in ChinaDaily  for two reasons. One is I don’t want to lose my ability of English. The other is I want to show my world to the people who want to be my friends, and share ideas with them. Besides, I want to see wider world though our sharing.

Learn to live and talk to yourself. We may good at living with other people, however, when we are alone, our life may in a mess.

When you are low, find a mirror, and look at yourself for a while. Then, smile and tell yourself, everything will be ok. Don’t be hurry, and don’t lose your confidence. Confidence can make you more pretty and bring you miracles that you never imagined.

Love yourself. If you don't love yourself, how dare you let other people to love you?

You write very well with deep meaning! I like the phrase: Your blanking period. I think for other words in English. It could be your wilderness period. It could be your lost period. It could be your empty period. Different meanings..nothing quite replaces blanking. I apologize if I missed something in your post. I got a strong sense of what you do NOT want to do..not to be a Civil Servant, not to do PG study. Yet I did not really see what you did decide to do, though you say you came out of the blanking period.  More posts!

This is a very mature and well-written piece.  Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

Last Saturday I went to watch a band play in a local bar in Chongqing called Nuts which is famous for promoting live music (of which there is not a lot in Chongqing it must be said!)  I recognised the boy who handed me my ticket as one of my students from last year - a charming and easygoing student with great English called Tom.  I asked him why he wasn't studying for the college entrance exam (gaokao) along with his peers.  He told me that he had quit school to become a guitarist and guitar teacher.  After the gig was over I chatted with him some more and found out more about why he made his decision.  It's easy to write off his decision as foolish and not well-thought-through, but his passion and belief in what he was doing shone through.  I told him that he had always been a very able student and if this idea didn't work out, he could always turn his hand to something different.  I wished him all the best.

My room mate has decided at the age of 26 that he wants to become a tailor and make suits on Saville Row.  A Korean friend has quit her well-paid and sought-after job at Samsung to follow her dream to become a television presenter.  I guess people change their minds about things and develop and change its important that they are allowed the means to do so.  Hopefully this will end in satisfied people doing what they love and doing it well, for their benefit and that of all of us.

hi, nice to meet u.

i think in China, sometimes, it is really difficult for somebody to pursue what he or she wants because of some Chinese culture and the present social situation. i always admire the person who dare to pursue their dream. it needs great courage.

hope we can keep on sharing our thoughts.
