Many locals and tourists wore Tibetan costumes during this year's Shoton Festival on August 11-17 in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

The Tibetan costumes are elegant with magnificent ethnic style, and also have an important position in the developmental history of national customs.

With the progress of society, the design of Tibetan clothes is also developing. Popular Tibetan clothing not only retains traces of ancient culture, but also shows modern fashion.

Wangmu, owner of a Tibetan clothes shop on Bakuo Street, said: "Tourists are likely to choose traditional Tibetan clothes, with bright colors."

With 20 years of business experience, Wangmu said: "In recent years, local citizens have become more likely to choose Tibetan clothes with simple colors, whilst more tourists are prone to the colorful and flower-patterned cloth."

Aside from selling, there are also some Tibetan costumes for rent, with most customers being tourists and students.

Although different local costumes have distinctive cultural characteristics, there is a consistent identification on the choice of color for Tibetan costumes.

Genquezhaxi, from southwest China's Sichuan Province, graduated from Yantai Normal University in east China's Shandong Province. He started to do business in 2006. He established his own Tibetan costume brand and held a fashion show in 2012.

"The essence of our designs is derived from the profound Tibetan culture, and it also incorporates fashion elements from home and abroad," Genquezhaxi introduced.

Compared with traditional Tibetan clothing, the Tibetan costumes designed by Genquezhaxi are closer to real life with the most convenient designs.

Meanwhile, diversified materials are used to make Tibetan costumes, such as chiffon, cotton and linen, other than traditional silk, stain, and Pulu.

No matter how it is improving, the colorful and delicate Tibetan costumes show long-lasting beauty and unique Tibetan aesthetic value.

As a kind of cultural symbol, Tibetan costumes integrate both the traditional products and modern ideas, whilst the combination of various cultural elements promotes the inheritance and development of Tibetan costumes.
