Well let me ask you something....from what I have learned, females in the animal kingdom have a wi ...

Ah! Well thats easy.

Well what you are talking about is courtship. And lola no i'm afraid I won't bore you with specifics but I will quote some easy examples to simply explain it to you that the animal kingdom is not as nice as you suggest anyone who studies it would describe easily in these few words "survival of the fittest" you know Darwin, it's a good read.

1- the lovely ducks we feed on the pond. Yup, the serial rapists, they have a corkscrew penis, they rape the females so much they had to evolve cryptic vaginas, yup its try again google scholar is helpful. It's an evolutionary fight, where females make their vaginas more cryptic or they will be forced to have unwanted off spring. Check the sundance festival for "green porno" there are great videos on there.

2-flies, the males inject the female with a chemical after having sex so they will not have sex with other males, it reduces their libido.

3- spiders, the male blocks up the entrance with a sort of glue.

4- lions, yahhh so cute, no, new alpha lions take over kill all the babies.

5- Most species have "sneak mating" where the males who can't keep a female/ or get one simply have sex with her quickly, in most cases (see squid research in japan)

6-Sneak mating is even found in humans! Whattttttt!? Yup, it's true check the latest porn research, where males prefer male/female porn in comparison to others, and when watching female/multiple-males porn that they will last longer and ejaculate more as in their subconsciously they want to be the one fathering the children and passing on our genes.

7- In a burning house fire if you sisters children and brothers children are in the house at equal points you will first save your sisters children... been done several times, it is because subconsciously you know that your sister is a mother so the kids are definitely hers whereas your brother, who's to know.

All of these examples are easily found and there has been a lot of research, i'd say just read Richard Dawkins "gene expression", it will give you a nice easy summary, basically even when we are altruistic and nice we are doing it for the benefit of our genes, even animals that are in a group are being selfish so much research done on this. So we are seen as inheritable selfish.

So if you think for even one instance females have the ultimate choice you are severely wrong, scientifically speaking we are here (everything on this earth) to copulate and pass on your genes, so you will do everything possible to do this, especially in the animal kingdom where human morals do not exist.

Sorry, took me a while to write all of this out, I can easily find out more, but it's been two years since i've touch on this topic so I feel a little rusty...

I always feel a tad depressed pointing out the facts like this with no emotions, we are of course animals, our genes still drives us however much we disagree. However unlike other animals we have human morals that advance us beyond our nature (nature vs nurture debate), so it gives us no excuse.

I feel like we have gone off topic, but I hope this helps you ^_^

However I feel like I did not emphasise this enough, it is never alright to blame discrimination of any sort on our "animal instincts" NEVER.

Through my academic life I was always taught to look at what the data shows and my professors always explained that we are animals however we are also different and able to rise above and should not use this as an excuse.

I feel like dumb people and newspapers take these facts out of proportion most times

I don't think we are at that point yet, at least no globally.  Maybe in the US.

But there is far  ...

Yes, there are many cases worldwide that show discrimination about women, like female mutulation the rapes.
However we also forget the other cases like 48% of domestic abuse is done to men, yet most of the adverts are done towards women.
A charity did something interesting in london last month, they had two actors play out a scene, the first the female was attacked by the male, most ran to their help and even called the police.
The second the male was hit by the female, no one helped and most thought it was funny, shouted encouragement.
I have seen this happen before. I do not think this is fair, personally no one should hit anyone.
I would say to read the guardian it as on there.
As a woman of course most times I think the world is more unjust on us, especially how it's turning out, with the LAD culture, or still being made to choose, do I want my Phd or children.
And although I strongly try to help any causes/charities I also think saying "We have it worse" actually works against women because it makes men act defensive, see you as a feminist.... when did being a feminist become a bad work... anyways.
I just think we should try to give both sexes equal opportunities to fit their requirements

I know about the raping ducks and the other examples you given, but still - those species are few compared to all the species in the animal kingdom.

And I think people cling to those examples without acknowledging that its not the norm throughout the animal kingdom.

People cling to this idea that ALL males are just aggressive and nasty by nature.  I think its insulting to animals really.....

Hope that makes sense.  Having a hard time expressing what I want to say here.

In the limited time I had I could not come up with more species.

But the truth is in most animal species the animals are polygamous especially seen in group animals, so a little strange that we the animals with most groups are monogamous ( and yes I believe in marriage and whoever I marry is the only person who I want to spend the rest of my life with)
So it's common for animals to have multiple partners, actually over 90% in mammal species ^_^.

And i'd like to mention, animals prefer not to fight as fighting can damage them which is detrimental  ^_^, I am not "clinging" to examples, I spent three years studying this and still am studying animals and humans in my Msc, so although i would like to make something clear.

"the animal kingdom is not all gore, animals make decisions based on why they have lean red and trade-offs, the thing that costs them the less but gets them what they want is what they will do, and we do this as well."

And I know this is easier to argue face to face because by the time you write soothing down you forget the other point ^_^, but I understand what you are trying to say, it's hard not to think of only women when we hear the news especially after the US shooting, I think we just need to remember though, that men can also be discriminated against and that no one is worth more than another.

I agree that most animals are polygamous - my point is that females have more choice in mating than is lead to believe.

I have seen a female dog take on almost the entire neighorhood of male dogs.  But she was able to reject some.  There were two dogs that I saw that constantly tried and she would never let them mate with her.  Both had health issues.  I found out later the one had heart worms.

I grew up out in the country - I have seen females successfully reject males in terms of mating.  This is not to say they are monogamous or are searching for the 'right one'.  I'm saying its more evolutionary.   That is why there are so many mating rituals and displays for males to 'prove' themselves to females.  Females that reject weak or sick males produce healthier offspring.  Nature has this in their control for the most part.
