Marbury received the "honorary citizen" certificate from Wang Anshun, mayor of Beijing on April 3.

Stephon Marbury, the playmaker for the Beijing Ducks, a team that competes within the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), has been awarded "honorary citizenship" by the city in recognition of his role in leading the team to their second league title in three years.

Marbury received a certificate and a golden key from Wang Anshun, mayor of Beijing, during a celebration on Wednesday.
In a post published on his microblogging Weibo page, the 37-year-old said Beijing will always be his home and he will try his best to return the kindness shown towards him by the city and his fans.

The Honorary Citizen award aims to recognize and acknowledge the contributions made by foreigners, overseas Chinese and people from Hong Kong and Macao towards the development of the city.
