A slap hard enough to knock out a tooth? I highly doubt it. By the look of that kid's possible age, he was probably already losing his teeth, and that one was ready to come out, anyway. Besides, 50 yuan is more than what the dentist would charge for removal, so the kid makes a profit. If the police are going to start arresting foreigners for doing the parents' job, I wonder if they will ever start arresting Chinese parents who actually beat the crap out of their kids.

A couple of things worth noting:

6 years old is about the age where the "milk" or baby teeth often fall out, so there's a good chance the kids tooth may have been loose already.

Secondly the woman, regardless of nationality should not have slapped a child that is not hers. She should have been charged with assault and hauled up before a judge.  Parental control does not enter in to the issue as any adult who strikes a child who is not theirs has shown that they are not capable of behaving in a civilised manner.

For the Anglo haters, don't throw stones when you live in glass houses.  Have a look at your own society and see how it treats children. All nationalities are guilty of massive amounts of child abuse, end of story.

Tooth was prolly loose to begin with.
Like I said - we will never know the truth.
I've had knee-jerk reactions when startled/struck and hit people too.
It doesn't sound like she walked over and smacked him for no reason.
But TIFC and the foreigner is always at fault and ALWAYS PAYS.

i can only imagine who you are.if the chinese gov't should do that i wonder how many chinese will be tripping the airport every day.that is just an isolated issue and it shouldn't go that far.i am not the one who is going to lecture you on chinese behaviors abroad.do your research and next time have some respect for people.people once in a while lost their mind.you never know what mood that woman was in at the time.is like to you there is no redressing for any wrong doing.to err is humane and to forgive is divine.

you don't have a child.don't pretend to show sympathy.what is in the parents of the boy comes out from the child.that child must have hit that woman with the trolley and must have hurt alot,is a spontenous reaction and hopefully the woman was in regrets after.have some respect buddy
