And who do you think should apologize for the millions of Chinese who died for famine decades ago ...

The rain Gods.
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

Compensation was given and the Philippine government regretted what happened.

What more you want ? ...

How much compensation was given to each victim's family, by whom, when, and where was it given?

DIGGING OUT THE HONGKONG DEMOCRACY ACTIVISTS' AGENDA REGARDING THE HOSTAGE TRAGEDY

Diggit started this post, and ever since he/she ignited this debate, Diggit has disappeared back into cyberspace.  Has anyone dug out Diggit from the dark matter outside?

The Hongkong democracy activists are using this high publicity event to force the Hongkong Chief Executive to do the impossible.  Sanctions on the Philippine government can achieve only so much.  He will be sliding down the slippery slope soon to begin sanctioning the poor maids and manual workers from the Philippines, to add more pressure on Manila.  After a while, he will get protests from the displaced workers who will then have to be arrested and shipped back to Manila, all the while, the Hongkong residents will be fuming at his "incompetence" in not extracting an apology he could not get, and in further aggravating their discomfiture by forcing them to wash their own latrines, change the diapers of their babies, and cook their own meals when they come back from work.

The Philippines, on the other hand, by inviting international intervention in its territorial disputes with China, has become associated with the chain of containment that ultimately threatens China with a ring of WMDs.  This was what the Chinese MOFA had warned about "making the dispute even more complicated".  Now, all the Chinese officials dealing with the Philippines have to be wary of making a blunder of allowing China to be put under siege by foreign powers, if they concede too much to the Philippines.  In short, by getting foreign support, the Philippines is giving away part of whatever China may concede to her, to her foreign backers, apart from inducing China to reduce the concession it would have otherwise offered.

However, this case clearly has nothing to do with territorial sovereignty.  It would be a blunder for Hongkong to insist that the Philippines surrender its diplomatic sovereignty by having its national government apologize for the mistakes of a city government, horrible as the botched up outcome was.  Any demand for apology from the Philippine government must come directly from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Beijing, as otherwise, Hongkong would be establishing its de facto independence from China, in conducting its own diplomatic relations with other sovereign countries.

This blunder by the Hongkong government would have more serious repercussions on China's sovereignty and its diplomatic status as a sovereign government, than the hostage tragedy itself.

Hongkong Chief Executive Leung should, without consulting Beijing, so as not to inflame the Hongkong people against China itself, accept the apology of the Mayor of the City of Manila, in a city-to-city type of relationship, and not demand an apology from the President of the Philippines, in a city-to-state type of relationship, UNLESS he is part of the CONSPIRACY TO MAKE HONGKONG DIPLOMATICALLY INDEPENDENT OF CHINA in actuality.

The families of the Hongkong victims have already accepted the compensations offered by the Philippines.

It is time for the Hongkong Democracy Activists to stop exploiting the deaths of fellow Hongkongers for political purposes, in finding cause to denounce the Hongkong Chief Executive, and following that, the Chinese government, for failing to satisfy THEIR unreasonable demands, because only the national government has the right to demand apologies from other sovereign countries, and since this event did not involve questions of sovereignty, China has no reason to want to include this incident in her disputes with the Philippines regarding what truly matters to China, her sovereignty in the South China Sea.

This charade of the western-sponsored Hongkong Democracy Activists/Separatists must be stopped now.
