No wonder the USA reacted so decisively. The motto of the USA is "The only good commie is a dead commie".
If one of their allies decided to stop killing people for no other reason than choosing communism their leader

Well, the CIA theory has been around forever and anything is possible.
The big problem with the theory is the fact that many Australian governments have been threatened with the same double dissolution ( a way to force a new election ), the fact that Whitlam became so amazingly unpopular so quickly ( He could have won the government back if he won the election) and that there is no real evidence that the CIA were involved.

Hai China is just bringing up the old theory for fun.

I well and truly know that Robert, especially the dirty tricks (and killings) associated with Nicaragua and El Salvador during the 80s for example when the CIA was training and overseeing death squads in both countries, to say nothing of the Iran-Contra affair and constant meddling in Mexico's affairs to name a few. Of course we can't forget Bolivia, Chile, Honduras, Brazil and the mess they left in Bolivia. However for open handed skullduggery Panama takes some beating where the USA had the temerity to overthrew what started out as a CIA backed and bankrolled dictatorship.  Perhaps the CIA should be recalled the Criminal Instigation Agency given their track record of illegal activities globally.

This doesn't change the fact that as yet no one has come up with any solid document trail proving a link with the dismissal of Whitlam from office. If and when that happens I will not be surprised.
