As more and more children set up their social media accounts, parent-child relationships are also tested. Some parents start stalking or following their children anonymously on social media so as to spy on their children’s life because they want to know more about it and are worried that their children may make friends with bad people.

However, a recent study found that there were actually more positive interactions between parents and children through social media. The study found that of those surveyed, half the teens said they communicated with parents through social media and 16 percent said they had daily interactions with parents via social networking. Children having good communication with their parents through social media were less depressed and showed prosocial behavior.

So, here we would like to start up a discussion on this issue to explore the following questions:

For parents:

1.        Do you log onto social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to spy on what your children are doing?
2.        Are you using anonymous account or your own account?
3.        Why are you doing this?
4.        Do you discover anything really heartwarming or heartbreaking?
5.        How does the incident influence your relationship with your children?

For children:

1.        Are your parents spying on your social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter?
2.        What’s your attitude towards the spying?
3.        Do you try to block them so that they won’t see your update?
4.        How does the incident influence your relationship with your parents?

I think it's a good way for spying on children's networking sites, the parents can find what kind of thing their children like and disliek, they can know how their children thinking and real mind. It can helps parents to build a better relationship with their children.

I do not spy on my children through social media. I do, however, limit how much time my children are allowed to be on the laptop, iPad or iPod to only 30 minutes a day. Children who are too "plugged in" do not spend as much time socializing with people face to face. I think it is very important that parents spend real time with their children and communicate in person instead of sending texts, or chatting on Weibo.
