The U.S. government always attaches importance to intelligence work, therefore, it has invested enormous human and material resources to collect all kinds of information. The departments engaged in intelligence work totals up to 17, including the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), National Geographic Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the national security agency (NSA). The intelligence agencies cover all over the world and gather intelligence favorable to the US even at the cost of violating the U.S. Constitution and international law. In fact, as early as ten years ago, China and the United States intelligence agencies have already been wrestling. On April 1, 2001, a U.S. Navy EP-3 reconnaissance aircraft flies over the sea near Hainan Island in China to perform reconnaissance mission. Chinese naval air force sent two F-8II fighters to intercept, where one of the J-8s (81192) collides with US aircraft and crashed with pilot Wang Wei missing. Wang was declared dead by China and the U.S. military aircraft is forced to land on Lingshui airport Hainan Island .

Bin Laden raid serves as a good example of US' highly efficient intelligence agencies. On May 1, 2011, a team of US special forces flew from Afghanistan to Bin Laden's hiding place in the dead of night. They swooped down on the compound in stealth helicopters, swept through the buildings within the high walled enclosure and shot dead a total of five people including Bin Laden. In the subsequent speech, Obama gives credit not only to SEAL team but also to the intelligence agencies including the CIA and the National Security Agency. President Obama and his security team watched the operation in real time from the White House.

Created in 1952, the National Security Agency is twice the size of the CIA and possibly more secretive. The NSA serves as the country's cryptologic organization, deciphering and writing messages in secret code. Its twofold mission includes designing coded U.S. information and defense systems while protecting them from code-breakers and trying to break the codes of other countries.

NSA spying is projected to cost at least $12 billion a year . There are about 160,000 military and civilian staff at NSA headquarters and overseas stations, more than the total of employees from other U.S. intelligence agencies. With all kinds of talents, among whom are first-class password experts and mathematicians, the agency is known as "the largest employer of the US and the world at large". There are also engineers, physicists, linguists, computer specialists, researchers, analysts, and other professionals. Some would say that the most powerful intelligence agencies in the United Statesis is not the CIA , but the NSA. Of all the US' secret intelligence 85 percent is provided by NSA, which is therefore called the world's largest "super intelligence agency."
