During the second WW, the Japanese invaded almost all of East Asia and SE Asia countries. The Japanese armies were brutal and killing many innocent peoples. They were so obsessed of victory, trying to conquering the world. The bombing of Pearl Harbour, testing the patience of the US, and finally two atomic bombs dropped at two cities, killing millions before surrendering to the allies of US.

The Japanese invaded and dropped bombs in many coastal regions in SE Asia, so that their armies can landed on shore and planted their rising sun flags. One bomb was dropped in one temple in Southern Thailand, maybe the Grace of Buddha and all the religious Amulets within the temple, that the bomb didn't explode.

The Phra Kring and Phra Pidta  from Wat Laem Sai become famous after that. Not the best looking amulets but at that time, the technology is not so advance comparing nowadays.

The Phra Kring of Wat Laem Sai.

I am posting this thread to create awareness of consecration amulets and talismans from temples and those from road sides set-up stalls. To a novice and inexperience persons, just by naked eye it's difficult to spot a dud and real amulets without a proper loupe and books.

Amulets, charms and talismans, whether from Buddhist temples or Taoism temples, all provided peace of Minds to wearers, and not some kinds of cult, satanism or devil objects, as most peoples think of them.

Sorry, I am not dealer, just collecting amulets is my hobby and wishes to share and discuss about them.

Buddhism amulets are getting popular not only in Asia, but also in European countries. Most of the  famous peoples in East Asia proudly displayed their amulets outside their shirts while most just concealed inside clothing.

Lately the Chinese tourists are in the news again. Score of  Chinese tourists floolded the stores in Bangkok selling all sort of Amulets in Tha Phra Chan market, where fake and replicas amulets only cost a fraction of the original at the temple.

Those amulets did not carried out any consecration by any temples and most Thais just stayed away from such places. Well can't really blame those Chinese tourists, but the commission earned by the tourist guide enough to last them for  a whole month. This is the only place that they can earn commission and the price at any temples are all written with price tags attached to them.

Must be some propaganda of dealers in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and magazines, which they will not  explained the different between consecrated amulets from temples and those made from factory.

Those amulets fully consecration by temples provides a peace of mind to wearers, while those unblessed factory made amulets are just a souvenir pieces that reminded you of your visit to Thailand.

In an amulets arenas, whether in Thailand or SE Asia countries, news about Chinese tourists making huge purchased at shops in Thailand and markets, and dealers marked up the prices several folds due to the wealthy tourists from China. The dealers can be heard them 30 meters away due to their loud voices and arrived in big groups and is lead by Thai tourist guides.

Most of those tourists don't know anythings about amulets, maybe the tourist guides liaise with some dealers and when the words .... lucks, wealth and attraction of opposite sex most will buy a handful of amulets so that they can pass them to their friends. Most tourists just cannot differential between the real and fake pieces.

Another most popular amongst them are those colourful amulets of yesteryear, and now with obscene images of naked girls in Kama Sutra position. These amulets of naked girls are not parts of Buddhism, but from those white cloth Archan (Masters) trying to have a slice in the amulets businesses.

Some of the beautiful amulets as below. Bewared! A lot of fake around.

The latest batch of Thao Maha Phrom, consecrated on 29th June, was completely sold out after the ceremony was over. Actual facts, it's a collaboration between businessmen and disciples of the monk, using the name of the monk, to enhance and popularise the amulets, i.e. marketing tragedy. Even the committee of the temple also got no say whatever.

Such amulets normally more costly than temple made and released, because temple made more than enough to meet the aspiration of the devotees, and the prices are quite affordable. Whereas those privately or personally sponsored batch, even though the price is stated in the brochure are just for show only.

I normally will give a miss for such batch, because the intention of making them, not for the purposed to provide for the masses, but to those businessmen to recoup their capital cost and make handsomely their investment.

Some of the most popular amulets in South East Asia and now in China is Phra Somdej of the late Luang Phor Pae, Wat Phikhuthong in Singburi Province, Thailand. All the amulets are made in the temple and very unique, especially all the beautiful rainbows colours. Most of them are embedded with at least two takruts, to enhance the efficacious of the amulets.

I was introduced to his amulets while I was in Bangkok some three decades ago. Was told his are very popular amongst businessmen, which created a friendly atmosphere and attract more businesses.

Most of the Hong Kong actors worn his amulets, and now mainland Chinese also looking for his amulets in Bangkok in Thailand. Heard there are hundreds of shops in Beijing dealing in amulets, and the popularity also bring the downside of these business trading ... fake and replicas amulets are also circulating waiting for unexpected buyers.

Just some of his amulets, beautiful and all don't look identical.
