On February, 16, 2013, around 3,000 Singaporeans attended a protest against the new demographic white paper passed by the Parliament in Singapore on Feb 8. The white paper suggests that more immigrants will be allowed to fulfill the shortage of local labors. It can be expected that the population of Singapore would reach up to 6.9 million by 2030, on the current basis of 5.3 million. Since 1990s, lots of immigrants from Chinese mainland have flushed into Singapore, which has become a major source of immigrants for the nation. In recent decade, tens of thousands of Chinese immigrants settled down in Singapore via various channels.
