But none of them can link pot smoking to death.

For over half a century they could not link tobacco to cancer..... but they did once they tried....
The world needs more idiots like me, all the others think they are clever.

There is no link to cancer smoking pot.

Forward any link you can find

there are plenty of links, however the proof is not as strong as smoking tobacco

here's one of the more recent:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18238947
Cannabis use and risk of lung cancer: a case-control study.
Eur Respir J 2008 Feb;31(2):280-6

This is a New Zealand study, a country with a small but easily studied population

the evidence suggests that regular heavy smoking has a solid positive association with respiratory tract cancers

however, the average cannabis smoker probably smokes a lot less combustible material over the course of a day or week than the average smoker

your chances of cancer are a lot lower with <5 cigarettes per day too

and a cannabis smoker might be happy with several joints a week, let alone 5 or even 20 a day.

I'm not sure how you can compare like with like in a study, weight for weight

If you are punching 50 cones a day for 20 years, get back to me about your lung function

bs alert

higher risk for oropharyngeal and respiratory tract squamous cell carcinomas

Where pot may increase the risk of getting cancer, it's also important to realise that cannabis is regularly smoked in conjunction with tobacco - which clearly does cause cancer.

Where pot may increase the risk of getting cancer, it's also important to realise that cannabis is  ...

the evidence suggests that tobacco is worse, but does the evidence match smokers for volume of smoke?

dope is so much stronger than it was 20-30 years ago

you could expect that a few cones of hydro would have less damage than 20 cigarettes of bush "kiff" per day, at least in terms of respiratory cancer risk through direct DNA damage, either as the cells lining the upper airway trying to adapt through squamous or goblet cell metaplasia, or through direct alveolar septal destruction and fibrotic change

better studies use case-control design and "match" each case and control according to tobacco use, thereby hopefully reducing the influence of tobacco as a confounding variable

the evidence is that heavy regular dope smoking is associated with an increased risk of respiratory cancers, but that should be no surprise

the surprise is that there is some evidence for direct anti-neoplastic effects of delta 9, but inconclusive.

intriguing nonetheless

pot should be decriminalised anyway, on the basis that criminalisation is ineffective

it still reliably sends people nuts but that would be pretty obvious anyway given the effect of intoxication
