Chinese kung fu actress murdered
A 29-year-old Chinese actress, best known for her roles in kung fu movies, has been stabbed to death in Beijing, apparently by her husband.

By Malcolm Moore, Beijing4:14PM GMT 29 Feb 2012
Bai Jing was found dead at her home in Beijing's Chaoyang district by police on Tuesday.
Her husband, Zhou Chenghai, 44, thought to be responsible for her death, committed suicide, according to reports in the Chinese state media.
Mrs Bai starred in Kung Fu Wing Chun as well as a dozen other movies, and was praised as a possible heir to Michelle Yeoh, until now China's best-known female kung fu star.
According to the Legal Evening News, a Chinese newspaper, Mrs Bai had filed for divorce from Mr Zhou, who received the summons on Tuesday morning, and returned home to confront his wife.
The divorce petition allegedly stated that she was unaware Mr Zhou had a previous marriage and a son, and accused him of infidelity.

According to Ju Chunlei, an entertainment agent in Beijing, the couple's marriage had been strained for some time, and Mr Zhou had been hit by his mother's death earlier this year. Police are investigating the case.
China's National People's Congress will consider another attempt at legislating against domestic violence when it meets next week, according to the China Daily newspaper.

Almost a quarter of Chinese women have experienced domestic abuse, according to the All China Women's Federation.

Taliban Says It Killed Chinese Woman in Pak
The Pakistani Taliban today claimed responsibility for the killing of a Chinese woman in the northwestern city of Peshawar, saying she was shot dead in retaliation for alleged atrocities by Chinese forces in restive Xinjiang province.

Taliban spokesman Mohammad Afridi told the media that the woman was killed to avenge "atrocities" by Chinese security forces in Xinjiang, where 20 people died in violence earlier this week.

Police in Peshawar have said they believe militants were behind the killing of the Chinese woman and her Pakistani companion in a crowded market in Peshawar on Tuesday.

Hua Jiang, the 42-year-old Chinese woman, was shot dead with Suleman Shams, a student of the prestigious Government College in Lahore.

Reports said the Chinese woman was a student of Beijing University and was on a vacation in Peshawar. Shams was apparently acting as her interpreter.

This was the second attack on Chinese nationals in Peshawar in a little over four years.

Three Chinese men were killed in the city in July 2007.

China's Foreign Office has taken the incident seriously and called on Pakistan to investigate the crime and spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

It also sought "credible measures" to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and nationals in Pakistan.

Beijing confirms killing of Chinese civilian by Burmese soldiers

By Cal Widdall
In a show of lightning-fast diplomacy, Beijing has finally commented on a Chinese civilian murdered by Burmese/Myanmarese soldiers who crossed over the Chinese border two months ago. Lahpai Zau Lawn, an ethnic Kachin (Jingpo) farmer was killed on January 12th, despite being on the Yunnan side of the Sino-Burmese border. His relatives say he was shot at close range, twice in the head and once in the abdomen.
A grisly photo has also been released which shows facial bruising, supporting his family's claim that he was struck in the face with the butt of a gun before being killed. Others from the man's village Loi Lung Bum, say that the killing was likely in retaliation for an incident on December 22nd, in which villagers detained two Burmese soldiers trying to steal their food.

North Korean border guard 'shoots three Chinese dead'

China says a North Korean border guard shot and killed three people near the countries' border last week.

A fourth person was reportedly injured in the incident near the north-eastern border town of Dandong.

China has made a formal complaint to North Korea, a spokesman for the Chinese foreign ministry said.

The two countries are considered to be close allies and Beijing rarely makes any public criticism of its isolated neighbour.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang told a regular news conference in Beijing that the four residents of Dandong, in Liaoning province, had been shot "on suspicion of crossing the border for trade activities".

"China attaches great importance to that and has immediately raised a solemn representation with the DPRK," he said, using North Korea's full name (Democratic People's Republic of Korea).

Close ally
Mr Qin said the case was being investigated, but gave no further details. Pyongyang has not commented on the accusations.

Illegal traders regularly cross the border between North Korea and China, taking black market goods into the impoverished country.

China is North Korea's main trading partner and the country perceived to have the most influence on the state.

Tensions on the Korean peninsula have been high since the sinking of a South Korean warship in March with the loss of 46 lives.

An international investigation blamed North Korea for the sinking, but China has resisted pressure to condemn its ally. Instead, it has urged both the Koreas to show restraint.

Last month, the North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il, was reported to have visited China to seek economic and political support.

China is crucial to North Korea's fight for economic survival, providing Pyongyang with food, fuel and much-needed investment.

Beijing is also a participant in the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear programme. The talks have been going on since 2003 without much progress.

In 2009, North Korea detained two US journalists on the border with China, accusing them of entering North Korea illegally.

Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who said they were detained on the Chinese side, were sentenced to 12 years' hard labour but were freed in August after four months in captivity, as part of a diplomatic mission spearheaded by former US President Bill Clinton.

A US man, Robert Park, was also arrested in December last year, after walking into North Korea across a frozen river. He was released in February.

Chinese teenage girl murdered in Malaysia

BEIJING, Feb. 18 -- The naked body of a girl found in an oil palm plantation in Malaysia on Sunday has been identified as that of a 17-year-old girl from China.

Li Mingqianm, from Southwest China's Guizhou Province, enrolled in a private college in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan, for an English course in mid-January, police said.
Li had been raped and sodomized.

Li was last seen by her housemates in Mantin on Friday morning. She had told her three housemates that she was going to Kuala Lumpur to look for a part-time job to finance her expenses.

It was not known whether she was going to Kuala Lumpur alone.

On Friday night, she told a housemate that she was in Klang and planned to return by taxi. That was the last communication between her and her housemates.

Police said Li was probably murdered by a taxi driver who took advantage of the girl but did not rule out the possibility that she was gang-raped before she was killed.

Police would investigate why she had gone to Klang when she did not know anybody there.

They were also puzzled by Li's intention to look for a part-time job as her mother was a doctor and stepfather a businessman.
