Ling Zi, deputy head of Chinese Confucian Academy and representativeto the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, has called for Chinesekindergartens to stop teaching the English language. She said students canlearn English at middle school.

Pro view (3)

Yes. Children should master their mother tongue and learn more about Chinese culture before they are taught any foreign language.

Con view (6)

No. English is a tool that those children will eventually have to acquire. Besides, children can easily master two different languages.

I don't know.

But if you are a researcher, an engineer, a professor, etc, if you want to study leading science, leading management skills, if you...., you must study at least English.

Most of leading scientific, economic, ....were and are written in English and other European languages..

If you want to study communism, you have to learn English, deutsch.
"Das Kapital" was written in German.

From 1900 to 1952, many China's universities used the same textbooks, which written in English, as U.S. universities'.

From 1949 to 1950, many mainland China's shools used the same textbooks, which written in Russian, as Russian universities'.

From 1950 to 1980, mainland China's government burnt huge amount of books, which written in traditional Chinese, such as "The Evil Confucian Books".

Could we go forward another wrong way if we didn't rethink what we did in the past 100 years?

Senile has a good point.
You don't teach languages in kindergartens, kids learn to play with one another, begin to socialise with one another...

Don't have any data or research paper on hand. Is speaking English at an early age interfere with speaking Chinese, or vice versa? Or does speaking two languages in kindergartens leave children unable to master either one of them, or just make them better?
We are all prisoners of our own device.
