DetailsThe Pearl Lake is one kilometer west of Zhuwo Village, Yanchi Township, Mentougou District, Beijing. Its altitude is about 400 meters above sea level. In 1958, a reservoir called the Zhuwo Reservoir was built here. The Mentougou district turned the reservoir into a tourist destination and changed its name to Pearl Lake. Walking along the banks of the lake, you will find Xinghua Village, Sanxian Cave, Huxinshuangliu Island, Tongxin Island, Shifang Bridge, Hengliu Bay Camping Island, Pearl Villas, and the Pearl Lake.
You can also visit an ancient cave temple named Gaibuyan, another ancient frontier fortress town of Yanhe, a part of the ruins of the Great Wall, a fairy-goddess’ cave, and Baishan Temple. Visitors can also go fishing, play in the water, hunt, or eat delicious farm specialties. The water is as clear and calm as a mirror, reflecting the blue sky, white clouds, mountains and trees. Because of this, people often refer to the area as “the small Three Gorges in northern China” or as “the small Lijiang River in northern China.” It is like a shining pearl of the Yongding River valley in western Beijing.
