CHina should stop attend any ASEAN related meeting or forum
.

Sorry, I beg to differ. From the view point of geopolitics,  ASEAN is far more important to China than the U.S. is. If China loses ASEAN to the west, China can kiss its "peace and prosperity" dream good bye. China needs to beef up its co-operations with N. Korea and Pakistan. Above all else, China should strength its partnership with its important and strategic partner, Russia. both in trade and military co-operations. The SCO and the BRICS are both important platforms for China to be seen and heard. China cannot afford to continue to go about offering "the other cheek" to the west. One more thing for China to look into is to revamp its foreign ministry. Don't put schoolboys to run the show. Staff it with someone, the likes of Sha Zukang and not just a good  "Hand-shaker" or "Pleaser" .

One poster opines China's little brothers are too disobedient and must therefore be kicked out of As ...
Both scenarios are designed to control China's smaller neighbours for China's own advantages.

When China is helphul and friendly to her ASEAN neighbors, you accuse China of taking advantage and trying to control her smaller neighbors. On the other hand, when China asserts her rights, you accuse China of bullying her smaller neighbors. You talk like a "left behind Jon Huntsman" among the 80 million bloggers in China!

It seems to me that the recent foreign policy initiatives by China (opening to the US and India, moderating DPRK, conferring with ROK, not getting too excited about Abe's ridiculous talk. and generally promoting moderation and the UN) are the most skillful!
What's on your mind...

CHINA'S ASEAN STRATEGY IS IN TATTERS

China's "Peaceful Rise" strategy is no longer being bought by most ASEAN nations, except perhaps Cambodia, which still gets substantial aid from China.  All other countries were surprised at how quickly the "harmless panda" turned into a "hungry bear", even if China's cliams of sovereignty over Huangyan, Spratlys, etc., were based on solid historical facts.  There comes a point in time when power makes diplomacy superfluous, but the actions of Vietnam and the Philippines in forcibly seizuing Chinese islands and detaining or attacking Chinese fishing vessles were as much if not more to blame for China's about face.  It is a brave new world in Southeast Asia all right, but not a much better world for everyone.

If China loses its trade balance edge, even the fence sitters may decide to ally with its enemies, as there would be no economic consequences to worry about then.

China needs to devalue the Yuan as soon as possible back to 7.00 if it wants to maintain the momentum of its economic growth, and the stability of its borders.
