I think incidents like Wounded Knee, the Kent State shootings, the marine who was critically injured from police at a protest.....

These incidents just strengthen our resolve.

No one wants to go down like a b*tch.

If there were not all the violent, shameful incidents in the 60's and 70's - we would look a lot different today, I'll tell you that.

The civil rights movement was won.  The anti-war movement succeeded.  The feminist movement won.

And now also, indians have more rights than they ever have before.

I could prove that by showing all the legislation that has passed in their favor since the 70's.

When you have a shameful incident - the only thing worse is to let it win.

That's the american way...... :)

Back to wounded knee

The latest movement by the lakota has largely been headed by Russel Means.

He is an activist, but he does not have the power that he likes to wield around.

His biggest opposition to his movement come within the Lakota council members themselves.

But I couldn't help cheer him on when he went to washington to withdraw from their treaties and declare independence.

What a cool move.  How defiant & brave.

Its funny, people don't really realize or acknowledge how native americans have shaped our culture and values.

The very thing we admired and incorporated into our culture, was the same thing that destroyed them.

But it is that warrior attitude - bravery - the traits we learned from the indians are still the most predominant american culture traits.
