...while foreigners, especially those from the West, likes reading books?

It's a question asked by Joseph Christian in today's China Daily. ( ... ntent_14019242.htm)

It's not a comparison or judgement on which is better, but just curious about the underlying causes.

So why??

Sorry? When the trip takes a whole day, I will have three meals on board a train AND at least two books to read in.

Yeah, eating is perfectly normal if your travel takes a long time.

But sometimes, as described in the CD article, even for a short trip that takes no more than 2 hours, most people would pack their bags with all kinds of snacks.

Why Chinese love eating on trains?

It's an excuse to snack.

A opportunity to once again eat that yummy instant noodle snack, bread or packaged meat product.

Everyone else does it, who wishes to look different.

Food helps when one is nervous.

Passes the time when one is bored.

Helps to facilitate in the next act of passing of time away; sleeping.

It's just plain fun to do, a train ride and a snack.:)

Hunger, train rides can be long and there's a meal to be had or lost, depending if one eats.

My turn: Why are street manhole covers round?
