I have been studying Libya since this uprising started and i can't shake off the feeling that Libyans may have been ungrateful to Gaddafi.  Libya was country that for the past 41 years prospered and was never in debt.  However in the last 6 months Libya has become a debtor not to mention the number of infrastructure destroyed by NATO bombs.  If care is not take the new Government of Libya will have to borrow from the west to repair their infrastructure.

If you look at some of the good things Gaddafi as done as indicated below you will agree with me that Nigerians would have appreciated a leader like this.  Don't get me wrong, Gaddafi has got his faults but he was a leader that provided the basics for his people.

Here are the GOOD and BAD of Gaddafi's rule.

1. The government of Muammar brought the Libyan government from poverty and debt, to prosperity and debt-free status in 41 years

2. Education from grade school through to college is free in Libya.

3. Healthcare is free and Libyan pharmacies and hospitals are comparable to high-quality European facilities.

4. Libya ranks No. 53 on the United Nations Index of Human Development.

5. Libya has the highest standard of living in Africa (even better than South Africa,Mauritius and Seychelles).

6. Libya gives free land and seeds to anyone who wants to farm that land.

7. There is virtually no homelessness in Libya as everyone is given a home.

8. Women in Libya have equal rights, not only as a philosophy, but in practice.

9. Under Gaddafi’s oil-revenue-sharing program, each Libyan gets $500 (Dollars) deposited into his or her bank account each month.

10. On marriage, each couple is gifted $60,000 to do with as they please

I could list a few more but my point is that here in Nigeria we are yet to really enjoy any if not all of the the above.

The bad:

Lack of democracy, opposition movements have always been dealt with harshly

The state was virtually family owned
the truth is that the war is all about oil
No matter the nature of ur problem may be. Never u submit urself to fraustration

Russia needs democracy just like Libya does - McCain

Russia needs democracy just like Libya does - McCain

25 August, 2011,

US Senator and former presidential candidate John McCain has lashed out at Russia, saying it could be the next country to experience a Libya-style uprising.

But Senator McCain has a very far-fetched outlook, believes RT's Washington correspondent Gayane Chichikyan.

McCain is sure that the Arab Spring will rage on and will make it to countries like China and Russia, which according to him “need democracy” just as Libya does.

At some point he even said that Libya has already achieved democracy, which is far from reality according to the situation on the ground.
Even as the National Transitional Council takes over in Tripoli, it is not the government chosen by the Libyan people. And many Libyans are outraged by the fact that foreign powers have essentially made this choice for them.

And looking back to Egypt, people there too do not seem to have achieved what they were fighting for.

As far as democracy is concerned in these countries, there are still a lot of questions, but according to McCain “It is all great and the fire of uprisings should move on to other countries.”

And according to him the “next stop” is Syria. “After Gaddafi it is Bashar Assad who is next to fall,” McCain said.

With his statements, Gayane says, McCain is seen as a mouthpiece for those forces in Washington who would want to see some countries, especially rich and strategically important ones, go upside down.

It is quite interesting that Senator McCain is pointing at some of the world’s richest countries and basically calling for revolutions in those countries, presuming that their “livelihood is so bad, that they need to rebel immediately.”

Meanwhile, polls show that most Americans are not happy with where their economy is going. And following McCain’s logic the question arises: does this mean that Americans too need to take to the streets and revolt?

Tell him the USA needs Democracy just like Libya does. ;)
Where does he get such crazy notions? The very idea
is ridiculous. He's do better to watch his own homelands
internal issues.

you mean NATO is down?

the evil WESTERN imperialists want libya for her oil, a new gateway to seize the Africa continent ... AND also to take personal revenge because Gaddaffi rightly kicked them out after he assumed power in 1969.  they are still sore so thought this is time for vengeance. how petty!

no different from the iraq invasion..

now, hopefully this libyan war will spark out a massive war of liberation by progressive forces throughout the arabia and africa to rid the region of western imperialist and puppet arab parasites.

the entire arab world and africa should only do business with china and russia and south america, cut out Western europe and USA.

Canada has so much oil in the north BC, the Antarctic that the US should invade. It’ll be cheaper because
it’s only next door!
