While ordinary Chinese are complaining about the rising prices of daily necessities like meat and vegetables, they seem all too willing to lavish on their weddings.

The average costs for a wedding in China now stands at $30,000, according to a BBC report, and "the wedding industry in China is worth over $80bn (£49bn) and with a growing middle class, this shows no sign of decreasing."

The costs don't even include all the money and gifts the two sides have to exchange for their engagement ceremony, if there is any.

Spending more than $30,000 for a wedding? This is ridiculous.

One can understand this is once-in-a-lifetime occasion, but it still can't justify all the money unreasonably wasted.

Knew some would say this.

Still, $30,000 is too much for an average Chinese family. If the couple don't care about the financial burdens after this speical occasion, then fine by me.

It also says much about the "face" culture in China.

Previously, I married in China. Beautiful marriage, wonderful reception dinner including all family/friends, studio wedding photos, lovely honeymoon in Hainan, grand gift to mother and father, etc. Cost was not even close to 30,000. I think you are not very knowledgeable about marriage in China.
If you love her enough, you will pay
