Renewed anti-Koran burning protests in Afghanistan
Kabul - Hundreds of people protested against the burning of the Koran the eastern Afghan province of Laghman on Monday, pushing the demonstrations into a fourth day, officials said.|
Angry men gathered in the Mehtarlam, the provincial capital, chanting anti-US slogans and burning an American flag, said Abdul Rasoul, a local resident.
'It is a peaceful protest against the burning of the Koran in the US,' Faizanullah Patan, spokesman for the provincial governor, said. Local religious leaders condemned the desecration at a meeting on Sunday, he said.
Violent protests spread across Afghanistan following the burning of a copy of the Koran attended by US pastor Terry Jones in a Florida church last month.
The act was condemned by world leaders, including US President Barack Obama, who described the burning as an 'act of extreme intolerance and bigotry.
At least 23 people have been killed and nearly 150 injured in the past three days as protesters clashed with police controlling the mob.
Seven of those killed were United Nations workers, who died in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif, where the riots started on Friday.
This was from monsters and critics. Wow - so the demonstration in afghanistan where people are burning our flag and chanting anti-US statements is described as a 'peaceful demonstration' - whereas the demonstration where the pastor burned the koran and anti-lslamic statements was 'condemned by world leaders'.
So we don't even expect them to act like civilized beings. The bar is set much lower to the ground. It's just expected that they will go into a killing frenzy because it's all they are capable of. Is that what the message is of this article?
