About many Chinese posters.

You talk about becoming a superpower, yet you accuse America for being imperialist.
You do know, that in order to have that kind of power, China HAS TO secure resources and political conquests in other countries.

Most westerners don't like American imperialism.
They surely won't like you.

Frankly speaking, when i see how laws are viewed in China and how the government treat it's own people.
I have a high doubts that a rise of China is going to have a negative impact on the world.

If you're to become a "superpower", take responsiblity.
You don't understand yourselves or the world around you.
You can't even listen to a foreign opinion.

And why even become a "superpower"?
Will it make you happy? Why?

There are two types of "superpower" - one is the aggressive bullying nasty type ala USA - the other is the softly spoken quiet achiever which is PRC.

A superpower which wishes to dominate weaker nations needs its jets bombers and fighters to stand over the weak - but what good are all those bombers and fighters againtst a country with a massive and well prepared anti-aircraft defence system?

Look at the example of Vietnam - a tiny nation with virtually no air power as far as fighters or bombers - yet well equipped with SAMs - have a good look at the statistics of air losses suffered by the USA during that war.

The multiply those losses by 1,000 and that is what would happen to any nation that tried to use an air assault to lead the way for an invasion of China.

China needs a powerfull military that is purely defensive and not a military stuffed with super expensive high tech hardware that is only good for invading weaker nations. Layer upon layer of SAM sites - fixed and mobile that would make any attempted 1st strike by an enemies airforce far too expensive to even contemplate.

We have seen quite clearly demonstrated the way the US and its allies cannot manage ground force operations without having full and complete air superiority - even now in Afghaistan we see them advance until contact with the enemy then they withdraw and call in massive air and artillery strikes to kill two or three freedom fighters. They have trained themselves to fight a cowards war - and China does not need to try to bankrupt itself by matching their airpower. A comprehensive and ultra effective anti-aircraft missile shield is all that is needed to be a "softly spoken and non aggressive superpower" - a superpower that can blunt the sword of any aggressor very quickly should the need arise.

In the meantime China quietly works away at becoming an economic superpower.........

WOW!!!!!
Funny thing is that China is nothing without America.
If it wasn't for America, China wouldn't have anything to produce. No factories. No jobs. No money. Back to agriculture.

What ...

You are so far up your own anal orifice that you have completely lost touch with reality.

China was a nation for thousands of years before the little pissant amerika fell out of the back street slums of the rest of the world.

If amerika was flushed down the toilet tomorrow China would still be a nation that would endure and thrive.

Arrogance and big mouths do not make a "superpower" anymore than nuclear weapons make a "superpower" - it is the ability to live in harmony with the rest of the world - not being a mafia style standover merchant - that makes a real superpower.

When the cesspool that is amerika crumbles into the dust of failed empire - China will still be advancing slowly but surely into the future - step by solid step. Our journey of many thousands miles is taken one step at a time.

Well, in the example of America>
Many American citizens believe that America is a peaceful nation that keeps order.
They believe that America promotes freedom and human rights.
America is often the exact opposite to this.

Still, many Americans believe that America is a peaceful country.
We both know they're wrong.
There's a similar thing going on in China.

I think it's funny that you mention Vietnam.
Vietnam was invaded by China - An invasion that was made in order to protect Pol Pot's rule of Cambodia. Pol Pot was a dictator and a mass-murderer. Many civilians died in Vietnam and indirectly in Cambodia because of China.

The cultural revolution is also another example of complete intolerance for cultural differences within Chinese borders.

China's heated relation with india (yet another emerging superpower in Asia) is nother issue - especially considering that these two countries are competing over the same interests. The relation between India and China is difficult, especially considering the past conflicts.

China's actions in Darfur is yet another issue. Have you looked into how China has acted in Darfur?

China's actions in Africa have been irresponsible - sometimes even worse than that their western counterparts.

I have examples where China has attempted to blackmail Scandinavian countries into silencing its media - totally disregarding the freedom of expression that exist in these countries.

I know of several cases in Oslo, where the Chinese embassy has blackmailed Chinese people to protest in the streets against the Norweigian government. Not that it's wrong to voice opinions against the Norweigan government or anything else that happends in Norway.
It's democracy.
Opinions should be respected.
But if China is going to push people to protest in other countries, China should let their own people do so as well - No matter what the opinion is.

While you do get news on how responsible China is in the world, there's also a different side of China that the PRC don't want people to know about.

I know that censorship in China exist in order to guarantee internal stability. But my question is:
How is China ready for any type of responsibility when it can't manage itself?

I also find the idea that China and Chinese people are more "good-hearted" and tolerant than other cultures/countries.ego-centric and self-glorifying.
It implies an idea that Chinese morals are flawless; that the country is morally perfected and no introspection is needed.
That's a very dangerous approach - not only to oneself, but also to others.

China has very little understanding about the world around it.
Showing interest to other cultures and embracing differences in its own culture is crucial for a country to be responsible, especially in a world of globalization where cultural isolation is impossible - especially for a superpower.

Both America and most European countries are trying to include other cultures into their own.
It's difficult but atleast they're blaming themselves.
Could China ever blame itself for being immoral, ruthless, imperialistic, missunderstanding, cruel or greedy? Does that type of self-critical thinking exist in a culture where "harmony" is exist instead  of cultural diversity and perspectivism?

Do you understand why i fear that China is like a big infant carrying gun?
