- Guangzhou is hosting the "Handicap Asian Games" from nations all over Asia.

- before the games the city of Guangzhou has "cleared" the streets of all handicapped people.

- nobody really knows what had happened with these pitiful creatures.

What an irony. This city is host to handicapped sports men.

Very, very bad !!!

Guangzhou to clear beggars

BEIJING -

CHINA'S southern city of Guangzhou has launched a campaign to clear the streets of beggars and loitering teenagers ahead of the Asian Games that kick off in November, state media said on Thursday.

"Guangzhou must achieve the targets of clearing beggars and vagrants from key areas related to the Asian Games, and clearly reducing the number in other areas,"  the official Xinhua news agency reported.

The report, citing the results of a city government meeting, added that loitering teenagers should also be cleared off the city's streets.

Deputy mayor Chen Guo added that mentally-ill people should be given treatment ahead of the November 12-27 multi-sport extravaganza - the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympics.

It is not the first time that authorities in China have pledged to rid a city's streets of beggars - a similar campaign took place in Beijing ahead of the Olympic Games in 2008.

Authorities in Guangzhou will send the undesired people back to their hometowns or otherwise relocate them, the report said. Beggars were a rare sight in Chinese cities until about 20 years ago, when economic reform and a loosening of social controls allowed a massive influx of migrants from rural areas. -

News reports said such kind of polices was enforced by Indian government to drive away street vendors before common wealth sport Games.
But later the street vendors won a law suit after the Sports game. But Chinese people dont have the right to protest or file a lawsuit agaist such polices.
China a better economic achievements and India has a better social achievements.

.
I came to this thread because the title was abit DRAMA !!!!!

But then, what do you hope to achieve ??  Let the handicapped out in the streets to beg and demonstrate their pitifulness ?

You think that is wise and it will not backfire ?  Sometimes, you have to look at the BIG picture and that is what the Chinese government is doing.

Not to mention the handicapped, the Chinese government even implemented stringent controls on the traffic during the BJ Olympics to ensure the Games run smoothly.

So, what the government did is consistent !  As for thinking that is "shameful", well that is subjective.

I guess you want China to show that it has handicapped people.  Of course, we all know and the world too, that they exist.

But how much could we care for them?  You think the foreigners are different ?

.
What I said, remains.
