A series of Chinese made shampoos endorsed in TV commercials by kung fu movie star Jackie Chan reportedly contain a cancer-causing chemical, according to a Hong Kong-based magazine.

The manufacturer, however, strongly denied the herb-infused products pose any danger to users.

Next Magazine said Wednesday that the Bawang Chinese Herbal Essence Shampoo Series, Bawang Hair Darkening Shampoo, and Royal Wind Shampoo produced by B&W International Group contained dioxane.

However, the magazine did not say how much chemical was found in the products during testing. In the ads, Chan said he initially turned down the chance to endorse the shampoo but changed his mind after washing his full head of hair with it. He also said he was pleased the shampoos use herbs instead of chemicals.

An unidentified employee at B&W told the Global Times that they use small quantities of dioxane in their shampoo products, and claimed it is not harmful to people.

Dioxane is irritating to the eyes and the respiratory tract, and is suspected of causing damage to the central nervous system, the liver and the kidneys.

The chemical is classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer as a carcinogen, and is classified in California as a cause of cancer.

We bought it once and there was still one bottle with a remnant of this shampoo.

My wife just throw it away.

We just talked about it and we agreed to buy from now on only western brand soap and shampoo.

After melamine comes now another serious health issue .

Obviously China has some hidden dangers, many people are not aware off.

Jackie Chan slammed for anti-democratic comments

Jackie Chan has earned the ire of some people in T aiwan and Hong Kong over his seemingly harmless comments regarding the possibility of democracy for China during a recently held business forum in Hainan. Jackie Chan said a free society may not benefit the authoritarian mainland of China further adding that the Chinese needs to be controlled otherwise they will just do what they want.

Jackie Chan said the freedom being enjoyed by T aiwan and Hong Kong only made these societies chaotic. While his comments drew applause from the business leaders present, majority of whom are Chinese, his statement however irked T aiwan and Hong Kong lawmakers particularly pro-democracy Hong Kong legislator Leung Kwok-hung who said Jackie Chan has insulted the Chinese people. Leung Kwok-hung said the Chinese people are not pets. He said the democratic system is needed by the Chinese society to protect human rights and rule of law.
