NEWARK -- A convicted sex offender was extradited to New Jersey today to face charges in federal court of running a brothel in Thailand that catered to Americans wanting sex with young boys, authorities said.
John Wrenshall, 62, was arrested in December at London's Heathrow Airport after being indicted by a federal grand jury in Newark. After months of fighting extradition, he arrived at 3 p.m. at Newark Liberty International Airport in the custody of U.S. Marshals, authorities said.
He is scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate judge Tuesday afternoon. Federal prosecutors plan to ask that he be held without bail.
"Given his history and ghastly exploitation of children, Wrenshall is clearly a danger to the community and to children specifically and should be detained," said Ralph J. Marra, the acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey.

Wrenshall, a Canadian citizen, drew the attention of federal investigators in New Jersey after a Union City man, Wayne Nelson Corliss, was arrested in 2008 for traveling to the brothel, where some victims were as young as 6, authorities said.
Corliss, a B-movie actor who also portrayed Santa Claus at kids' parties and fairs, admitted in October to visiting Thailand three times between 2000 and 2002 to have sex with two boys, ages 6 and 9.
Officials estimate thousands of men visit Southeast Asia each year to have sex with children. Wrenshall began inviting Corliss and other Americans to his home near Bangkok, Thailand, as early as January 2000, authorities said
Wrenshall, who authorities say was convicted of abusing young boys in Canada in the 1990s, is charged with aiding and abetting sex tourism and production of child pornography. He faces up to life in prison.
