Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast

Iran has strongly condemned the Canadian police for arresting hundreds of protesters during the recent G20 summit in Toronto, describing the move as an inhuman act.

"The use of various violent tools and ways to counter a peaceful rally is by no means justified. The move by the Canadian government is a blatant breach of basic rights of citizens to freedom of expression," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Tuesday.

The spokesperson also warned against the "new and dangerous" approach adopted by Canada toward the civil rights of its citizens, expressing Iran's profound concern over a lack of life security and a possible violation of rights of those arrested in that country during the last few days.

Mehmanparast advised the Canadian government to observe the rights of the detainees and to give assurances that the judicial process will take its natural course.

The remarks come as protests against the summit have resulted in more than 600 arrests. Seventy others were also detained after police raided the University of Toronto's downtown campus.

These are some of the double standards the west has. They can shout about irans arresting of protester and condemn it but they do exactly the same thing but the only difference is they do not talk about it when they do it themselves. Ian Tomlinson who was a newspaper er was killed by police in london who was not even part of the g20 protests but we do not hear condemnation for his killing from anyone.

Rest assured; if Canada had been shooting young girls from rooftops, there would have been the same condemnation that Iran faced.

I personally don't like these new "anti-protest" technologies being used, especially the sonic and microwave ones, as their use can be abused (and it could even be said they were, as they were used earlier in the week to control crowd migration before people started becoming violent).

I expect that mroe then a few of the violent protestors were in fact RCMP officers being used to discredit the protestors

At the SPP summit RCMP officers were found to be posing as protestors dressed in black covering their faces and holding weapons (bricks and stones) A union leader at the protest line exposed them and the RCMP officers in disguise eventually ran to the RCMP lines and dissappeared in a RCMP van

Canada's behaviour at the G20 was terrible, but Iran is pretty damn far down the list of countries that has any moral grounds to complain to others...

I think this time they weren't that stupid (was hilarious video of them being caught, sick bastards), this time they just abandoned three police cars downtown Toronto to be destroyed by the Black Bloc and let the vandals run rampant while arresting anyone who was being peaceful...
