Scammers are a scourge, and operate all over the globe.
China is not immune from hosting scammers, sadly.

A friend of mine has been engaging scammers to try to determine their identities and then refer them to law enforcement authorities.

Recently a scammer sent a passport scan as proof of identity, clearly it is a forgery and a bad one at that.

The photograph looks like he may be a politician or official and obviously he would not be the scammer and is an innocent person being represented here.

I am asking if anyone recognises the person pictured, so that my friend can tell the scammer he's been caught out as the photo is really of so and so.

Anyone recognise this person ?

Cheers
JB

A poor forgery. The person on this photo is at least sixty years old. The birthdate mentioned in this PP varies from the one in the code (bottom line), all personal data are in bold letters, date of expiry differs between pp date and code date, the name Kim in not convincing........and so on. What a bad job.

He is the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Zhou Wenzhong.

I found it through 'TinEye', an image search website

If this is correct then I don't believe this scam ever happened in real life. It's obviously a smear campaign.
