Anytime there has been a potential for another country to become a power house, the U.S. has successfully sabatoged and brought down that country. In the 1980s, Japan was being very successful and making a lot of money. Their influence was seen as a threat to the U.S. and the Americans forced Japan to revalue the Yen and collapsed the Japanese economy, eliminating them from any chance of becoming a real power. I have also heard that the U.S. is behind bringing down the Soviet Union as well. The U.S. is currently trying very hard to sabatoge China from all angles, including Thailand (overthrow Thaksin), 1998 Indonesian riots, Sudan; causing instability in Pakistan to prevent Iranian oil from getting to China; forcing sanctions on Iran- a supplier to China; sabatoging Zimbabwe- a supplier of natural resources to China. If the U.S. was successful at eliminating all its competitors then why not China?

I think Chinese development has reached a point of no return, and the only thing the US can do is delaying the inevitable. Of course, this is one of the reasons why we should build up our military more rapidly AND make sure our Nuclear deterrent capability is here to make sure that those Americans will not dare to blink their eyes to us. After all, a country who proclaimed publicly that they will never be second with history's most aggressive military track record is something we should prepare for when they are going berserk and insane by "not wanting to be second".

"Yes, please go ahead. Over take us. Let me get that door for u."

that's the official message from washington. the official message is always a deception.

of course u don't want to be portrayed as the nation that prevents the growth and prosperity of another nation. however, it is ridiculous to think that the established power will simply move aside politely.

it is also a sign of amazingly blind arrogance to think that China is somehow more powerful at this point. US is by far the predominant military and economic force in the world. China is growing at a rapid pace but nowhere even close to taking over. it's the classic shakespeare's "Henry IV" lesson; "overstate the strength of your adversary to ensure humility in yourself and highlight your own strength when u defeat them". It is perfectly within their power to destroy china.

Right now US is on the offensive and China on defense. in just about every issue from accusations of human rights to currency manipulation, the US is portraying china as the unworthy world leader while china's only response is "Nah Uhh." it's just so hard to watch sometimes, not because i think china would be a better world leader but because it seems utterly disasterous.

Talking about deceptions, maybe you should get your facts right first. The official message from Washington is clear cut in the latest version of State of Union address:

President Obama addressed ... how he won't accept the United States being in second place for anything, ...
