What will happen when the world is controlled by a duopoly again simply is frightening.
i think we are on the same wavelength here. the world is moving away from the US lead unipolar world back to the bi-polar world of the cold war. it seems every aspect of human society tends swing back and forth between dominant ideologies. from democrats and republicans in US politics to thin/thick clients in technology, we seem to be balancing ourselves like an amateur trapeze artist.
The cold war was certainly frightening for the proxy nations like korea, vietnam, afghan, south america, (list is long). even newt gingrich characterized the cold war as wwiii. however, this round will certainly be different than the last. Most of these nations understand the dangers of becoming a proxy nation. There is NAM (non aligned nations) alliance which is an obvious response to the atrocities of the cold war. as long as proxy nations make the effort to fully represent their own interests rather than just swallow the demands of the superpowers, the world has a chance. this is true in business, relationships, philosophy, .. pretty much everything. there has to be a balanced approach where everyone wins, otherwise no one will win.
basically, the world's social order is fine tuning itself to find that equilibrium. i hope that proxy nations can serve to balance the natural agressive tendencies of the remaining super powers in order to maintain peace while the human race slowly evolves to a more civilized state. hopefully, without another set of horiffic brutal disasters like korea, vietnam, etc.. doubtful but..
