Four US-led troops killed in Afghan war

Sun Aug 7, 2011 1:38PM GMT

Separate violent attacks have killed at least four US-led soldiers and wounded several others in various parts of Afghanistan.

NATO said on Sunday that four of its members were killed in two separate militant attacks in south and east Afghanistan.

The nationality of the soldiers or the exact locations of the incidents were not released.

The deaths come just after US-led foreign forces witnessed their deadliest day since the war began a decade ago.

Thirty-one US Special Forces, most of them from the elite Navy SEALs unit were killed after their helicopter crashed in the east.

The Taliban say they brought down the copter with a rocket-propelled grenade. NATO is investigating the incident.

The latest casualties bring to at least 383 the number of US-led troops killed in Afghanistan this year alone.

According to official figures, more than 2,664 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.

NATO has admitted that the power of militants in Afghanistan is on the rise despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led forces in the war-hit country.

The rising number of foreign casualties has stoked opposition to the Afghan war in NATO member states as well as in other countries that have contributed troops to the mission.

'Deal lets US keep bases in Afghanistan'

Sun Aug 7, 2011 12:28PM GMT

US troops on the outskirts of Kandalay village in Kandahar Province on August 6, 2011
The draft of a strategic deal between Washington and Kabul envisions giving the United States the authority to set up permanent military bases in Afghanistan.

American and Afghan official are set to discuss the deal at Loya Jirga (Traditional Grand Assembly) with tribal elders and political figures.

The recently-released draft shows that the US would be able to establish permanent military bases in Shindand, Shorabak, Kandahar, Bagram, and Khost.

According to the agreement, Washington can set up more military bases in other parts of Afghanistan whenever it deems necessary.

The military bases, which will be run based on US Army regulations, would be in complete control of the US government.

The Afghan airspace will be handed over to American forces after the strategic deal comes into effect.

If an agreement is reached on the permanent bases, US troops will remain on Afghan soil beyond 2014, when they are scheduled to transfer their security responsibilities to Afghan forces.

The draft also states that all US military and civilian personnel must act according to the American constitution at the time of military operations.

The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001. There are nearly150,000 US-led forces in the war-hit country.

The only way the Islamic revolution can put an end to this insult, total disrespect and national security threat to the heroic, powerful and like no other Islamic revolution is by providing a full military, financial assistance to the Taliban. A dead pink "white" gunman in Afghanistan is good for Iran security and also for Africa security, as an African we pray that Iran will help the Taliban.

Say no, burn the poppy fields, and kick us out - - no country with a sane and/or responsible government wants us in country, except as tourists, and there's nobody with money to spend on tours.

This news show that Iran has 0 influence over USA puppet Karzai despite treating him like not a puppet, giving him financial support and giving him a presidential welcome which is only reserved for real president and not puppets like Karzai. The puppet Karzai behavior shows that Karzai has not even the slightest consideration for Iran despite all the support Iran has provided to him. USA military base directly bordering Iran is an insult to the powerful Islamic revolution.

karzai under usa payroll have no choice to make a deal. he was set in by the americans and he is an american. i guess things in afghanistan will not solve anytime soon and usa will be in the east doorstep of iran for long. from the other side they are making deal with other puppet maliki to be there for another year. from the north they have puppet x soviet regims. lands. from the south they have stupid traitors arabs. so iran get ready for a big and long fight.

A second helicopter belonging to the US-led NATO coalition has crashed in Paktia Province in eastern Afghanistan, killing 33 US forces on board.

Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mojahid claimed responsibility for the crash, which occured in Zarmat city on Monday, saying 33 American troops were killed in the downing, a Press TV correspondent reported on Monday.

Separately, another NATO chopper made a hard landing in the same area in eastern Paktia province late Sunday, Afghan witnesses and officials told Press TV.

The US-led NATO forces have cordoned off the scene of the incident, witnesses said.

The incident has reportedly left some casualties, but there are no words yet on the exact number of the killed or injured.

The main cause of the incident is not clear yet.

Meanwhile, the US-led alliance issued a statement and confirmed that the helicopter made an emergency landing. The statement said no one was injured and that it has launched an investigation into the incident.

The incident came in the wake of a similar incident on Saturday, which claimed lives of 31 US forces.

Taliban claimed responsibility for Saturday helicopter crash, but NATO said it has started an investigation into the incident.

Taliban shot down NATO copter: official

Mon Aug 8, 2011 10:49AM GMT

At least 31 US forces were killed after their helicopter was shot down by Taliban militants in eastern Wardak Province on Saturday. (file photo)
An Afghan official has confirmed that Afghan Taliban were responsible for the crash of a US-led NATO helicopter that killed 31 American forces on board.

The helicopter was gunned down after the Taliban laid a trap to lure US forces into the area, the official said on condition of anonymity on Monday.

"Now it's confirmed that the helicopter was shot down and it was a trap that was set by a Taliban commander," AFP quoted the Afghan official as saying.

On Saturday, a helicopter belonging to NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) crashed in Afghanistan's eastern province of Wardak, killing 31 elite US forces.

The American forces were lured into the area after they were told that a Taliban meeting was underway there, he added.

The Afghan official stressed that the responsibility of Saturday's crash rests with Taliban commander Qari Tahir, adding that the Chinook helicopter was gunned down by multiple shots.

Citing intelligence gathered from the area, he said four Pakistani accomplices contributed to the attack.

"The Taliban knew which route the helicopter would take," he maintained.

The death toll was the largest in a single incident for foreign forces since the US-led invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001.

Meanwhile, another NATO helicopter crashed in eastern province of Paktia on Monday, while yet another made a hard landing late Sunday in the same general area.

Taliban claim 33 US forces have been killed in the second downing on Monday. However, US-led forces have not commented on the number of casualties yet.

Taliban kill 4 US troops in Afghanistan

Tue Aug 9, 2011 6:21AM GMT

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the killing of 4 US soliders and injuring 4 more in sothern Helmand province. (file photo)
Afghan Taliban say they have killed four US soldiers and injured four others in two separate bomb attacks in eastern Afghanistan.

Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mojahid said two tanks belonging to US military forces were destroyed in two separate roadside bomb attacks in the city of Zarmat in Paktia Province early Tuesday, IRIB reported.

Four American troops were killed and four more were injured in the attacks, he added.

The US-led NATO coalition has not commented on the incident yet.

The Tuesday attack came a day after 33 US forces were killed in a NATO helicopter crash in Paktia Province. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the crash.

Earlier on Saturday Taliban militants gunned down another NATO helicopter, killing all 31 US forces on board.

Taliban's Tuesday attack on the US military brings the number of the killed US soldiers to 68 over the past four days.

The use of roadside bombs by Taliban militants against US-led foreign troops and civilians in Afghanistan has reached record highs.

The US Defense Department's Joint improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO), a body tasked with putting an end to the use of IEDs in Afghanistan, has said that 3,485 roadside bombs exploded or were found in the war-torn country from April to June, indicating a 14-percent increase compared with the same period last year.

The Taliban should hit the US when the US is down because only then will the US be able to experience the pain that they have inflicted on the countless number of innocent civilians over a good 50 years. Some of these dead soldiers are green card soldiers from Asia, Central and South America that the US has promised to give them citizenship

Bomb kills five US troops in southern Afghanistan

Thu Aug 11, 2011 5:14PM GMT

A roadside bomb killed five American troops in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the U.S. military said, less than a week after American forces suffered their worst single loss of the Afghan war when Taliban militants shot down a helicopter.

The U.S. military and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) did not give details regarding Thursday's incident. A Pentagon spokesman in Washington said the victims were Americans.

At least 50 foreign troops have been killed so far in August.

Violence is at its worst in Afghanistan since U.S.-backed Afghan forces toppled the Taliban government in late 2001, with record civilian casualties and high levels of foreign troop deaths during the first half of 2011.

A Chinook troop-carrying helicopter crashed five days ago in central Afghanistan after being hit by what U.S. officials believe was a rocket-propelled grenade, killing 30 U.S. troops, seven Afghan forces and one Afghan civilian interpreter. Reuters

NATO has confirmed the deaths of seven more US-led foreign troops in Afghanistan as foreign forces continue to experience some of their deadliest days in the war-torn country.

The Western military alliance says six American soldiers were killed in a militant attack in southern Afghanistan on Thursday.

Separately, another soldier died in a homemade bomb attack in the east of the country.

No further details have been released about the incidents.

The deaths bring to at least 391, the number of US-led foreign troops killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

According to official figures, more than 2,672 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the invasion of the country in 2001.

NATO has admitted that the power of militants in Afghanistan is on the rise despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led troops in the war-hit country.
