Perhaps. But while the Roman script might be easy to learn, English spelling isn't. And while English grammar is easy to learn overall, the sheer number of exceptions bring that initial advantage to naught. Not to mention the countless synonyms and homonyms in English compared to other languages.

English might be easier to learn than Chinese, but it's far from the easiest language.

What statistics? 8% of the world are native English speakers, of course they are functional.
1.7 billion people speak English functionally.  Its an official language in 53 countries even though the US and Australia do not have official languages.  If you claim that people can not use English functionally as a second language then what makes you think they would get any other language any better?.

1. Just because English is an official language in a country, it doesn't mean everyone speaks it. I live in Ottawa, Canada, and just a days' drive away I could easily find myself in a community in central Quebec where the locals are not functional in English.

2. English is not the easiest language in the world to learn.

Well, China's media "subtitlers" misspell English words all the time!

In fact, the American Regime is the worst prepatrator of them all!
All the words all spelled wrongly!
Not exactly the Queen's English!

But don't worry, the Queen is very forgiving, she accepts the new spelling, even new words!
