MELTDOWN BY WAY OF DEMOCRACY

The book, MELTDOWN, by Mike Chinoy, described the story of "when George W.Bush took office in 2001, North Korea's nuclear program was frozen and Kim Jong Il had signaled he was ready to negotiate.  Today, North Korea posseses as many as ten nuclear warheads, and possibly the means to provide nuclear material to rogue states or terrorist groups.  How did this happen?

Although the world is convinced that North Korea "cheated on its international commitments", the Bush administration actually cheated on the Clinton administration here within America, and the National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice and the Secretary of State Colin Powell groups within the Bush administration itself cheated on each other, not to mention that the Bush administration cheated North Korea so bluntly out of an Agreed Framework based on "no hostile intend"  that it made Kim Jong Il mad enough to build the nuke bomb that he tried everything not to do it.

One former Heritage Foundation scholar described:"You didn't have to believe North Korea paranoid to believe you had been screwed over and over again."  Another veteran State Department analyst, "They realized they were being jerked around, even as everyone else was accusing them of jerking others around".  This finally brought a Geogetown University's Asia expert to conclude: the North wanted agreements with the United States that are "'election-proof'... agreements that will outlast a change of presidencies."

The final statement of the book stated: "It was, by any standard, a catastrophic failure of America diplomacy."

But what's really been happening to the entire world is that we are suffering a meltdown by way of democracy.

Not sure how the failure of individuals from known neocon selfserving groups constitutes a failure of a political system Joe. It's no more the fault of democracy iteself than its the fault of China that I found a staple in my rice.

the meltdown story illustrated how democratic countries assumed legitimacy in their own internal ballot system and violated other countries' interest and the previous agreement they have with the other countries.  just imagine if all countries behaved this way, every country must first turn into a nuclear-weapon country before they could safe keep some security.

look low easy it is for a democratically elected administration to screw other countries:  once assumed power, national security adviser c.rice just imply instructed the speech writer to add iran and north korea "in order to avoid focusing solely on iraq", before america unilaterally invade iraq based on a lie.

and now obama turned white and decided to pursue the decision by bush that iran and n.korea are still among the randomly decided "axis of evil"

HIGHLIGHT Quotations from MELTDOWN -- PREFACE

HIGHLIGHT Quotations from MELTDOWN -- PREFACE

* Kim Jong Il -- who, contrary to the conventional stereotype, is neither crazy nor irrational, and whose main goal in a strategically realigned post-Cold War world has always benn regime survival -- drew the opposite conclusion.  In his view, going nuclear was the best and perhaps the only way to ensure he wouldn't share Saddam Hussein's fate.

* Despite repeated North Korean appeals for talks, the (Bush) administration for more than five years refused to engage in meaningful bilateral negotiations.  Thus six years of needless brinksmanship, missed opportunities, and the disastrous elevation of North Korea and Kim Jong Il to the club of nuclear powers.

* U.S. decision making on North Korea was a combination of moral outrage, confrontational rhetoric, military muscle flexing, and a disdain for the subtleties of diplomacy and anything the Clinton administration had tried to accomplish.

you people who scream about the rights about people like Saddam INsane  who gassed their own people,
attacked Iran causing thousands of deaths during a 10 year war????
and attacked Kuwait........

really have a screw loose....

Kim in North Korea,
is responsible for his own actions......
the only reason he built nuclear bombs is so he could use it as leverage to pry money from the western allies,
because his own people are starving....

and the only reason he has of fearing the Americans is because he attacked an American protectorate...

when will stupid countries stop attacking America, thinking we are weak ?????

Chapters 1 -- "WITHOUT YOU THERE IS NO US"

Chapters 1 -- "WITHOUT YOU THERE IS NO US"

* Alarmed at what seemed to be an inexorable slide toward disaster, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter decided to intervene, traveling to Pyongyang in mid-June for talks with Kim Il Sung.  The former president announced the breakthrough in a live interview on CNN as senior Clinton administration officials were finalizing their war plans;  they halted their meeting to gather around a TV set in the White House to hear Carter's news.

* The Kim-Kim meeting between North and South Korea(according to Madeleine Albright) undermined the view widely held in the U.S. intelligence community of the Dear Leader as irrational and illogical.  "Rather than being a reclus, Kim has appeared frequently for the past several years.  In an interview, Kim Dae-jung said, "I got the impression the Chairman Kim Jong Il was a very bright person... and he was very well awared of the situations across the world, and in particular about South Korea.

* The South Korean leader said that Kim Jong Il "kept saying that he only option for them to survive is to improve their relations with the United States.  Only if the United States guarantees the survival of the North Korea regime, and that North Korea will be introduced to international society, then they will abandon everything, including nuclear weapons, missiles, and weapons of mass destruction, everything."
