Iran launches advanced Jamaran destroyer

Iran launches advanced Jamaran destroyer

Iran's Navy on Friday took the delivery of the first indigenously designed and developed guided missile destroyer Jamaran.

The Mowdge Class vessel has a displacement of around 14,000 tonnes and is equipped with modern radars and electronic warfare capabilities.

Jamaran, a multi-mission destroyer, can carry 120-140 personnel on board and is armed with a variety of anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles.

It has a top speed of up to 30 knots and has a helipad.

The vessel has also been equipped with torpedoes and modern naval cannons. The destroyer's launch marks a major technological leap for Iran's naval industries.

More ships in its class are under construction. ... sectionid=351020101

Iran's Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi

Iran has announced starting the production run for new medium-range surface-to-air missiles with the aim of upgrading its air defense systems.

Iran's Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the missiles have a range of more than 40 kilometers.

Ahmad Vahidi added that the smart missiles travel at supersonic speed before hitting their targeted enemy aircraft.

Vahidi said these technologically advanced missiles are apt in electronic warfare, adding that the missiles break into small pieces and act as shrapnel, upon impact.

"The mass production of air defense systems is successfully underway and these systems will [soon] be delivered [to the armed forces]," Vahidi informed.

He noted that the new missile system will play a decisive role in defending the country's airspace.

Over the past few years, Iran has acquired expertise in missile production at a rapid pace and conducts frequent drills to test-fire its latest prototypes.

Operation Tp-ajax (1953)

Originally posted by mechanic at 2009-12-10 23:30

Iran should do what it needs to protect its oil fields from the thieving claws of Anglos.

Perpetrators: U.K., U.S.A.
Target: Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh

With hindsight, all the snags in Iran’s Western-backed 1953 coup probably suggested it wouldn’t end well. In 1952, British intelligence officials contacted the CIA about the prospect of a coup, disapproving of the leadership of Prime Minister Mohammed Mossadegh and his plans to nationalize the country’s oil industry, which had previously been under British control. The plan was for Iranian Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi to issue a decree dismissing Mossadegh and replacing him with a royalist general, Fazlollah Zahedi. But the shah proved an unenthusiastic co-conspirator, wary of losing his throne and his own popularity. After months of cajoling (and a power grab by Mossadegh), he assented.

To set the stage, the CIA launched an anti-communist propaganda campaign against Mossadegh, including planted newspaper reports, bribes, street demonstrations, and even the bombing of a cleric’s home to break the prime minister’s coalition with Iran’s religious community. (It managed to dupe NEWSWEEK into running one of those planted stories.) Finally, on the night of Aug. 15, 1953, pro-shah soldiers fanned out across Tehran, snipping phone lines, arresting top Mossadegh officials, and stirring up anti-Mossadegh demonstrations. But they were unable to grab Mossadegh himself, who had been warned about TP-Ajax, as the mission was dubbed. The next morning there was no certain government—and also no shah, who had fled to Baghdad and then Rome amid the chaos.

But just when the operation seemed an utter flop, royalist officers took control of the radio and whipped up even more fervid street demonstrations, suddenly shifting the national mood against Mossadegh, paving the way for the coup’s success and leaving 300 demonstrators dead in the process. Zahedi, who had been hiding just outside Tehran, was brought into the city to assume leadership, while Mossadegh and the rest of his supporters were rounded up; 22 were later executed, including the foreign minister. The following day the CIA wired $5 million to the new regime. The CIA’s first-ever attempt at regime change was deemed so successful that it became a popular policy option, pulled out again the following year in Guatemala. But as the full extent of CIA involvement leaked out, the unequivocal victory for American spies began to seem awfully shallow. It created a friendly regime but also a half century of fierce anti-American and anti-British animosity among ordinary Iranians.

Note that again it was Imperial Anglo mob from the UK who initiated this action and "enlisted" the help of its main colonial flagship; HMS America.

US Is Preparing to Attack Iran

US Shipping Co. is Delivering Large Amount of Weaponry to the Island of Diego Garcia Close to Iran: Sunday Herald.

March 16, 2010 (Hamsayeh.Net) - Western media report a US secret plan to move massive amount of weaponry close to Iran for carrying out multiple strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities.

Based on a report by Scotland’s Sunday Herald the Obama administration has contracted a Florida based company to ship bunker buster bombs and other armaments to the island of Diego Garcia situated in the Indian Ocean with close proximity to the Iranian territory. Diego Garcia, a small island occupied by the UK until 70’s was transferred to the US for use as a military base.

The report by the Sunday Herald cites the secretive move to be a familiar Obama administration strategy in dealing with the Iranian nuclear program.

But, some military analysts dismiss the likelihood of a US military attack on Iranian nuclear program because of broader repercussions that such a strike might have. In recent weeks, the United States experienced a number of setbacks concerning the Iranian program when China, Russia, Brazil and other powers rejected a call for tougher sanctions against Tehran.

Because of the setbacks many analysts believe the US is currently undergoing a period of ultimate frustrations and identity crisis which would lead to its further isolation on the international scene.

Oh, and this is why they still buy Russian SAM systems?
BTW, a destroyer isn't usually accepted as being as large as 14,000 tonnes. That's the displacement of a light cruiser. Even US destroyers aren't that big!

Fury as Russia sells its missile system to Iran - Exclusive

Iran is buying an ultra-sophisticated missile system from Russia to protect its nuclear sites. The S-300's surface-to-air rockets can hit many targets at once, including in-coming cruise missiles, making any Western or Israeli strike on Iran much more difficult.

News of the multi-billion pound deal with Moscow has caused fury and fear among Western powers as they desperately try to stop the country developing nuclear weapons.

An intelligence source told The Mirror: "In the game of bluff and counter-bluff this is bad news for Israel and the West.

"The new missile system will hugely empower Tehran which already has a fairly inflated view of its military and defence capability.

"This has everyone worried - Israel because it knows the US is currently not up for attacking Tehran and the US because it knows Tehran has the upper hand."

The S-300, which Iran has been trying to buy since 2005, can hit a target at 100 miles and will be delivered to them within months.

It is a massive blow to Israeli defence chiefs who fear Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, below, is building up a nuclear capability to attack them.

Pentagon chiefs have already written up a detailed plan to strike as many as 100 targets if they have to destroy Tehran's nuclear installations.

Bunker-buster bombs would hit underground complexes and Hellfire missiles targeted to kill the country's top scientists.

Mikhail Dmitriyev, head of the Russian Federal Agency for Military Co-operation confirmed delivery of the S-300 is imminent. Russia's stateowned news agency RIA Novosti said: "Contracts have been signed." ... ve-115875-22179865/
