A matter of law and order

Great changes have taken place in Tibet since the autonomous region's peaceful liberation in 1951. Here are some key facts and figures about Tibet.

Those are really scary and fighting words harking back to the era of communist expansionism. This is 2009 and China is a more liberal and broad minded country.

We Chinese participate in international actions sanctioned by the UN. We are sending our fleets and soldiers overseas to help out where we can. The very last thing we want are words like "peaceful liberation"...

China is an emerging economic powerhouse, a force to be reckoned with globally. Please talk and behave like one.

As far as I am concerned, it was a law and order issue. All provinces should be run by a secular government.

Molly, with due respect for what you are trying to achieve, please be mindful of your choice of words.

I agree with your thoughts on the misuse of this phrase, Cestmoi, however it does appear to be the popular term in the Chinese media as well.
We all know that when adjectives like that are added, that one can guarantee that the reality is the opposite.

"Peaceful Liberation", it's a bit of a misnomer like "Democratic People's Republic of (insert name of nation ruled by communist dictatorship) "
"他不是救星, 他是一个非常淘气男孩" - Monty Python

Thousands died, so you could use the term "peaceful liberation".

>in the past the west's attitude to China has been somewhat bigoted, however you have to remember that China's attitude to the outside world was just as (bigoted) ...When the Europeans first sent trade delegations to China the envoys were treated as barbarians, told to kowtow

The difference is that the European/Western attitude and treatment of China was calculated to exploit the people of the country and reduce it to a semi-colonial status. No such argument can be made about China's objectives towards the West at this same time period.

>they (China) are still judging him (DL) by what he thought and did 50 years ago, what if the rest of the world behaved as if China was still carrying on like it did 50 years ago ?

Well frankly, many in the West still do. The broader question of how long one's behavior should impact others judgement of them does not have an absolute answer. If you ask any American whether or not Osama Bin Laden should be treated well by the US if he were to emerge from hiding as a 97yr old several decades from now, I think you would get a near universal, "NO". And I can't say I'd blame them. Let us remember that is was not that long ago that the DL publically revealed his plan and desire for the ethnic cleansing of non-Tibetan Chinese from "Greater Tibet".

China Is Not Afraid Of The Old Man DaLiar_L

Emu

The only place that continues to damn the DaLiar and continues to lie and twist his words, is China. China, a country of 1.3 billion people is scared of one little old man ???

The reason DaLiar is damned is because he deserved to be damned.

DaLiar is seeking to establish a Teibetan Nation for Teibetan People Only.

Look at the photo below.  No twisting of words is necessary, because a picture is worth than a thousand words.

Who is scared of the OLD MAN?

China is not scared of him.  He is out to destabilize Teibet.  To let him have a free hand will put the life of thousands, even hundreds of thousands of Teebetans at risk.  Simple as that.  China wants to PROTECT Teibet and Teibetans.

As Tsering Shakya said, EVEN IF THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF TIEBETANS RISE UP [AGAINST CHINA],  it will not shake China's hold on all Teibetan populated regions.

But WHY risk the lives of these POOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SO EASILY SWAYED BY BLIND RELIGIOUS WORSHIP THAN RATIONALITY?
