A massive fire engulfed part of Central China Television's new headquarters on Monday evening, and one firefighter was killed tackling the blaze and seven other people were injured in the fire. According to a statement released by CCTV, they hired staff from a fireworks company to ignite several hundred large festive firecrackers which result in the big fire. The incident aroused intense discussions on the Internet about whether the fireworks should be banned or not. What do you think of it? Should fireworks be prohibited during festivals?

Ban it!

I have no feeling as childhood when I played those modern fireworks. And the whole-night noise made me sleepless.

Not so easy to answer because I like fireworks. :)

Perhaps they should be restricted to areas where no buildings are located or only permitted with a certain safety margin of say 200 or 300 meters from buildings. Huge firework displays, and I understand that the one that caused the disaster was a huge display, should only be allowed if REAL pyrotechnical experts handle them. People from the manufacturer can not be considered as experts.
