For Post # 41 For seneca - London's Price Tag for 2012

Actually, most host countries used the opportunity to enhance their infratructure and sports acitivities. And almost all of them exceeded the original budget.

In four years' gime, London will find itself lifting its budget cap with the reconstruction of the dilapidated East London area and with the increased security measures, if not for anything else.

China's spending on the 2008 Games was well worth it. It created a new Bekjing amid the country's modernization efforts, and it earned China an outstanding place on the medal board. The sports facilities will serve many purposes in future for a nation the size of China, and China's athletic prowess will continue the momentum, and so will the nation's uplifted spirit in its quest for strength and prosperity.

The Chinese paid so much because they got a foreign show with foreign ingredients, foreign architecture, foreign hardware at foreign prices....

Unfortunately, some of the expenditure also flow into a foreign parasite.

The last 40 years or so - it seems that each city that gets the Olympics tries to do something showy/stupid for the opening and closing ceremonies.  And for all the money invested/people getting hurt (Beijing has not been the first in those catagories) - they merely the warm up act and closing credits.

The real show is supposed to the be the Olympics - the two to three weeks of human athletic competition - correct?

Much like the Super Bowl Half Time Show - the Opening/Closing Ceremonies really needs to get back to basics, and a touch of sanity.

I hope that the folks in Vancouver are going to put a short, tasteful display - and let the athletes show their stuff.

Ah... is tongluren upset that China did not sweep all events?

Regardless - 2010 in Vancouver will not include swimming, which means the powers in Beijing will have to invest in Winter Sports - like Hockey!!!
