Actually, Boulder is an outdoor Mecca. I went hiking, biking and skiing.

Some cities in the west, you dont see a soul in the streets after  ...

I do wonder what western cities you have been to?  This isn't even remotely true in any of the ones I've attended, like London, Barcelona, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Naples...

These cities all have considerably more nightlife than either of the metropolises I have lived in in China (Dalian and Wuhan).  You don't have to travel half an hour by cab in the average European city just to find a bar.

"What kind of "vibrancy" do you see in China's cities? Parties? Disco dances? Cultural entertainment? Busking? Sportsevents? "

Come on, there is vibrancy in China too. It's just different.  It's old people dancing in the squares.  Eating barbecue.  Stuff like that.

But the OP was wrong to say that China has more.  It's just different.  It's certainly much less varied and dynamic in China, though.

And sorry, shopping in China sucks compared with the West.  A lot of people have commented on how they expected it to be great, but all the good quality stuff made in China gets exported to the West (or occasionally sold in 'import' shops (even though it's made in China) for twice the UK price)
