ZG,

This is very true, though. China has a high investment rate and so it can sustain significant amounts of inflation through demand for people who do not, in fact, provide a return. The paradigm case is the tech boom: investments overwhelmed the economy and a lot of money was given to unproductive enterprises.

i am particularly concerned for the old people, of whom China has many. How are the young ones to be able to support them directly or through the State if the young ones themselves face creeping inflation while more and more get into the job market each year and job growth may be affected by contraction of foreign markets as  well as increasing competition?  This is an issue places like the US congress and EC protectionists conveniently forget to recognize whenever they pressure China through calls for revaluation and tariffs.

On the other hand, the Government cannot be subsidizing for everything; that will disincentize enterprise and cause hoarding while reducing the competitive edge that China must constantly sharpen.

I leave to better minds this troubling challenge.

Maybe that is the result of development, factories could not always benefit from cheap labours.

So well said.
Things won't be so rosy if the economy slows too much.
My fear is that if 'The People' don't get a revamped Public Education system, better Healthcare (yes, beyond the major centers) before the economy slows down, there could be unrest. There are more ways to be rich than just having money in a bank...

hey brother!

wrong thread lar!

This is natural progression in PROGRESSING NATIONS.
As China has a large batch of vocational, semi professionals, professtionals, entrepreneurs, trader, the transition will not be difficulty.
Capital is also not lacking in China and the New Middle Kingdom.
There is also a huge market.

As long as BIOFUEL, SYNTHETHIC FUEL, DOMESTIC FUEL (in smart ratios) can be used to reduced the expense of imported fuel,
the growth would continue.

Items such as MP3, mobile phones, smart cards, new fangle "vacumn tube" speakers, flat screen LCD TV, new computers, laptops (China might need to work on own CPU, and also share source code with software developments) to progress.
Automobile, ship building, water process, pollution control equipment, electricity production etc.

It shouldn't be a problem....

of course the human factor is very important, empowered people!

cheerios!
