No nostalgia here (funny how you know how my glory days are behind without knowing who I am or where I'm from), I was just mocking Gotohell's amusingly 19th-century 'history is racially determined' rubbish.  I thought you were against the blatant racism on the previous page, but now you're talking about 'mentally more advanced nations' like it means something...

Your explanation is reasonable, even if Jard Diamond's lawyers might want want a word (of course, such interpretations can never be considered definitive 'historical facts').  My only point is that, looking at history (or the present world) in terms of inherent racial characteristics, which is the basis of pretty much everything Gotohell says,  doesn't work.  Also, ironically enough, this racialised view comes from the writings of men in the 19th and early 20th centuries.. and guess what colour their skin was?

#1. The GUN.  They were equipped with the most advanced killing machine and they had no hesitation using them . The colonized were guilty of arrogance (  " they can't kill us all " ) and dismissive ( " they are barbarians " ).

And the reason that those freaks were so good with the gun is because they stole the technology from the Indians. They used to fight each other in Europe all the time and so had the chance to practice with and develop those guns. They also had a lot of practice at exterminating native Americans, aboriginese and Africans with those guns, perfecting it each time to a fine art form.

On the other hand, Asians used to be at peace with each other -- only thinking about philosophy, religion, culture and beautiful things. Not warring with each other, we became too trusting and didn't feel the need to develop our guns which we invented.

Man, the white man caught us at a bad time in history.

Gotohell, now you need to reconcile what you just said with the idea that nonwhites are inherently smarter than whites...  what you've described looks like the westerners being smarter.

By the way, were your forefathers wrong in thinking they didn't need anything from the west?  Why, being more civilised, advanced, and 'smart', would they need anything?

Lesson: Always expect the worse case scenario from westerners. Never trust anything they say when they come smiling and wanting to do business. Do business with them but wear bullet-proof vests in case they try to stab you in the back as they are signing their papers! .

Right! The bitter lesson learnt from 150 years of bad experiences with these treacherous white supremacists is enough is tell us NEVER again to trust them! Beware of their 'hidden daggers' when they come smiling, trying stab us again in the back!

I'm now with the guy above... you're not Chinese.  This reads like a particularly sappy western New Ager speaking- 'Oooooh, I love Asia, it's so spiritual'.  你是否看懂汉字?  So the Mongol invasions, anti-Mongol uprisings, civil wars, Manchu invasions, massive Qing expansion campaigns, more civil wars.. never happened.  Instead, those lovely Asians sat around thinking about 'beautiful things'.

Most of the greatest inventions in the world were made by the Chinese. When those in the west were still living in caves, Chinese had already invented paper, had grand palaces, mastered language, had gunpowder, prototype guns and cannons, compass, firecrackers, etc.
...

Yes, the Chinese invented all these things that included gunpowder, guns and cannons, but out of human conscience and respect for human lives, the Chinese didn't fully utilise these weapons against others and later due peaceful conditions prevailing in China during Qing dynasty, the art of making these weapons were soon forgotten!
And this gave the treacherous white supremacists an opportunity to invade China with their guns and cannons that were originally invented by the Chinese but later abandoned their use due the peaceful conditions in China and  their good human conscience and respect for human lives!

Lang Lang - Dragon Song

the documentary with Lang Lang touring in China and giving Master Classes in five Cities  was awesome.......
in each City he is the youngest Master Class lecturer ever, and it was really outstanding,
the piano gets a new dimension grace to Asia, that's really inspiring....

also the interview with Tu Weiming about Confucius, only the moderator of our state television posing stupid questions over and over
was a pity, but Tu Weiming was lovely more then smart, he answered all the dull questions of our moderator in a polite, gentlil,
extraordinary excellent way..........

then the report about Hongkong movies was nice too....

the state tv has China week, and its interesting and the images talk for themselves, only the state tv's questions all mostly too dull....

China's culture is overwhelming, smart and Beautiful !  Smart because they are Beautiful and Beautiful because they
are Smart, what a pleasure !
