TINLEY PARK, Ill. - Five females were shot to death at a suburban Chicago clothing store on Saturday, and police were searching for a man they said fled the scene.

The victims were shot and killed at a Lane Bryant store at the Brookside Marketplace, police Sgt. T.J. Grady said. Officers found the victims inside after getting a 911 call around 10:45 am, Grady said.

Earlier, Grady said "the offender" had apparently left the cluster of stores off Interstate 80 in the suburbs southwest of downtown Chicago.

"No motive has been established," Grady said. "Every store was immediately canvassed and a search by air too has given us every indication that the offender has left the scene."

The store was open at the time of the shootings. Grady declined to say whether the victims were customers or employees. He gave no ages and said authorities are still trying to reach the victims' families.

Police were allowing some shoppers into parts of the strip mall later Saturday, but had cordoned off the store.

Tracy Caccavella was shopping at a Pet Smart store late Saturday morning across the parking lot from the Lane Bryant when she saw police enter the pet supply store.

"Six police entered the store with their hands on their gun holsters," Caccavella said.

The Cook County Sheriff's Department was helping with the investigation, providing a helicopter and K-9 patrol unit Saturday, spokeswoman Penny Mateck said.

The small red and brown brick Lane Bryant is part of a cluster of four or five stores isolated on one side of a large blacktop parking lot, with big box stores including Target and a Best Buy several hundred yards away.

Two large county vans backed up to the front of the building Saturday afternoon and a white canopy was placed over the front of the building.

Messages left at Lane Bryant Brand headquarters were not immediately returned.

When?

When Bush stop raising the military budget.

When guns are outlawed for civilians.

That's when the CDC will stop reporting the 20,000+ gunshot deaths each year in America.

See it happening?  Nope.  Not before the guntotting bloodthirsty Yanks kill enough of their own kind to cry UNCLE.

I'm afraid when the US economy is fast going downhill, there'll be more and more cases of public shootings. And there'll be greater number of laowais flocking to China to escape the harsh reality in the West!

Hm... this has the feel of threads past, so lets skip a few posts and sum it up, it is tragic - but it is not unique:

Knife attack at Beijing nursery

AP - 4 August, 2004

A doorman at a Beijing kindergarten has stabbed 15 children, killing one of them, according to Chinese state media.

Three teachers were also injured when the knife-wielding man went on the rampage at a nursery in Beijing Universitys Number One Hospital.

The alleged attacker, 51-year-old Xu Heping, has now been detained by police for questioning.

The motive for the stabbing is unclear, but Mr Xu is said to have had a history of mental illness.

The incident was the worst attack on children in the capital in decades, according to China Central Television (CCTV).

Early on Wednesday morning, police received an emergency call saying that a man had been hacking people up at the kindergarten with a kitchen knife, according to the website sina.com.

Eight officers went to the scene, where they soon overpowered and arrested the man, the website said.

A four-year-old boy died due to serious injuries and blood loss.

Two other children and a teacher sustained serious neck wounds, and are in a critical condition, according to Xinhua news agency.

The other victims were said to be covered in blood, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

It was too cruel, it happened in a moment or so. The victims were just kids and I saw the bodies dangling inside the emergency cars, one woman told CCTV.

Another witness told the Associated Press news agency: Blood was everywhere. The kids were lying on the ground.

Police and city officials said Mr Xu had a history of schizophrenia.

Due to illness, Xu Heping was hospitalised at the Beijing Anding Hospital for treatment from 11 May to 24 September 1999, the Beijing government information office said in a faxed statement.

Violence increasing

Violent crime used to be very unusual in China.

But in recent years, there have been a series of horrific attacks. In February this year Yang Xinhai was executed after being found guilty of 67 murders spread over a three year period.

In June, university student Ma Jiajue was also executed after being convicted of killing four classmates and stuffing their bodies into a cupboard.

Attacks on young children have also shocked China in recent years.

In one of the worst incidents, in 2002, police detained a kindergarten doctor after he confessed to putting rat poison in salt at a rival nursery, where 70 children and two teachers had fallen seriously ill.

fact : taking guns away from law abiding people has not and never will stop firearms related crime , they removed all handgun ownership in the UK in 1995 and the handgun crime has increased , place the blame where it belongs , gang mentality and hollywoods infatuation with with firearm related manslaughter , any country that fosters gang mentality has the same problem , the USA has a large Gang sub following , jail all persons using a firearm while committing an offence for 20 years with no parole and see what happens to the gun related crime statistics .
