Shim Sung-min, 29, one of the kidnapped South Koreans in Afghanistan, is seen in this handout picture released July 31, 2007 in Seoul. Taliban kidnappers shot dead a male South Korean hostage on Monday, accusing the Afghan government of not listening to rebel demands for the release of Taliban prisoners. The dead hostage has been identified as Shim Sung-min, according to a press release by the South Korean government.

This is bad.  This is no good.  Do they even think that they have achieved anything for their cause by killing innocent people who were there with only good intentions in the first place?  If they want to achieve anything, they should face the root cause of their problem, not hit at just anyone they can get their hands on.  Collateral damage caused by one side should not be met by deliberate damage caused by the other. There'll be no end.   Especially when the other side holds all the aces in might and resources.

What they have done will only cause them to be further ostracised by everyone, including those who would have cared for them more. They will become marginalized, avoided and vilified, and can in the future only attract like-minded desperadoes, raising the ante for a final confrontation.  The result then will be inconsequential to their cause, and definitive in its result.

Don't travel to hotspots unnecessarily.
