Canada's spy service, CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) is charging that China is using its Confucius Institutes as "soft power" to promote its language and culture to dominate the world.

Chinese in Vancouver: "This government is too obsessed with bashing China to a sickening level."

More on the CIV blog: And now promoting Chinese culture, language is a conspiracy too?.

This is disturbing incidents.

The winning camp of cold war still eagerly spread communist phobia, China threat and yellow peril.

Based on their logic, what should we do to English teachers teaching in China?

ha ha ha

don't be "too sensitive"

afterall, the British has "Briitish Council"; the French has their "Alliance Franchais"....etc.
ordinary Canadians will just ignore such frivolous statements.
the PR must be "believeable" to be of any use.

so, what's the big deal?

northwest: "Based on their logic, what should we do to English teachers teaching in China?"

Either we stoop to their level by applying undeserved suspicions to these "teachers" or we brush it off with utter disregard for infantile ploy by continuing to show respect for people who aspires to teach.

What a crock of ----. So what if the Chinese government is building schools to teach Chinese language around the world? This would be sinister if they were then forcing people to learn it; but Canadians, Australians, Americans and Europeans are all learning Chinese of their own volition and in ever increasing numbers. The citizens of the west are demanding to learn Chinese, they are not being force-fed.

And the point is?

"The spy service notes analogies have been drawn between the Confucius Institutes and the German Goethe Institutes, the Spanish Cervantes Institutes and the French Alliance Francaise"
Yet these are not perceived as threats?

What a waste of Canadian tax dollars. (as if the taxes there weren't high enough)
And this information was classified

I wonder how I could get involved with the Confucius Institutes, sounds like a great business opportunity:)
